XII, 35b top לפניהן מהלך הארן אל, v. חלד.] Hif. הוליך 1) to lead; to carry. Macc. 10b, v. supra. Gitt. 4a וכ׳ המוליך he who carries abroad a letter of divorce, contrad. to המביא he who brings a letter from abroad. Ab. Zar. III, 9 וכ׳ הנאה יוליך et him cast the profit (one loaf's value) into the Sea. Gitt. VI, 1 וכ׳ גט הולך carry this letter of divorce (as a messenger). Ib. 63a sq. (distinction between הילך, here is the letter of divorce, i. e. take possession of it in behalf of my wife, and הולך carry it, i. e. be my messenger). Ib. 64a, a. e. כזכי הולד דמי 'carry' (the letter of divorce) is equal to take pos- session (in behalf of her who authorized thee); a. fr. Hithpa. התהלך to go away, withdraw. Cant. R. to V, 1; Gen. R. s. 19 (ref. to Gen. III, 8) אלא . . . מהלך וכ׳ מתהלך it does not say m'hallekh (walkin g) but mith- hallekh, He hastened and went upward. Ib. לו מתהלך (ed. הלך מת, corr. acc., v. Matt. K.) is he (Adam) going away (from God)?, v. אתמהא.

הלך m. (b. h.; הלך) traveller. Succ. 52b (ref. to II Sam. XII, 4) וכ׳ ה׳ קראו מתחלה at first he calls him (the tempting sin) a traveller &c.

הלכה f. (הלך) 1) (cmp. מנהג) practice, adopted opinion, rule. -- כ־ ה׳ in practice, the opinion of . . . . is the rule. Keth. 77a כמותו ה׳; a. v. fr. -- מסיני למשה ה׳ a. usage dating from Moses as delivered from Sinai, . e. a traditional law or a traditional interpretation of a written law. Kidd. 38b; a. fr. -- 2) in gen. traditional law, tradition, custom. Orl. III, 9 ה׳ הערלה the application of the laws of Orlah (v. ערלה) outside of Palestine is traditional or a custom (מדינה הילכות, v. Kidd. 38b), -- Y. Bets. II, 61b top לה׳ as a traditional opinion (of a teacher), opp. לעובדא as his own decision for practice. Y. Dem. III, 23c bot., sq. מה׳ according to a custom. Ker. 13b 'which the Lord has spoken' (Loev. X, 11) ה׳ זו that means traditional interpretations. Ib. III, 9 (15b) וכ׳ לדין אם נקבל ה׳ אם if it is a tradition, we must accept it, but if it is a logical inference, there may be an ob- jection to it. -- 3) law, contrad. to אגדה.
