Ib. וכ׳ ביה עצר דו ז׳ gayyara is that in which an object is squeezed, m'zorah is that with which the beat- ing is done. Ab. Zar. 60a וזירא מעצרא Ms. M. (ed. מעצרא זיי׳, Rashi to Sabb. 123a זייארא מעצרתא) the vat or the press-tub (dsed by a gentile for making wine). -- Pl. זיירי. Sabb. 123a ומזורי ז׳ סיכי (Ar. ed. זייתא, m. זייתין, זייתיה, v. יתא I, II.
זיכי, זיכיא m. pl. (זכי, Pa.) clearings, i. e. twigs, roots &c. collected for clearing the ground, rubbish. M. Kat. 10b; B. Bath. 54a ז׳ דזכי מאן האי (Ar. זעיא, Var. in Mss. &c. דיכיא, דכ׳, זכ׳, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) he who clears away rubbish.
זיל to be worthless, part. זיל, v. זול.
זיל imperat. of אזל. זילא 1) part. f. of זול; 2) m.=זילותא low valuation. - Pl. יליb. B. Mets. 52b, v. זלל.
זילאי pr. n. m. Zilay. Ber. 53b.
זילוף, זל׳ m. (זלף) sprinkling (with aromatic wine &c.). Pes. 20b לז׳ ראוי (Ms. O. through entire page זלף) fit for sprinkling. Ib. ז׳ תעשה may be used for &c. -- Num. R. s. 13, beg. (ref. to יזלו, Cant. IV, 16) ז׳ זה that means aromatic sprinkling. Succ. 40b; B. Kam. 102a ולא לאכלה לז׳ to be eaten' (Lev. XXV, 6) but not to be used for perfumes; v. זלח.
זילותא f. (זול) 1) cheapness, low price. Targ. II Chr. IX, 27. Targ. Job XXVIII, 17 Ms. a. Levita (ed. קילותא). -- 2) disregardd, disgrace. Targ. Lam. I, 8. -- Yeb. 100a ז׳ משום because it is a disgrace (for a woman to stand waiting). Maec. 24a וכ׳ בז׳ שמע דלא he does not hear a scholar defamed and keeps silence. B. Kam. 102b bot. יקרייכו לא וכ׳ זילותיכו . . . I want neither your honor nor your in- sults; a. fr.
זילזולא m. (זלל) disregard. Ab. Zar. 35a בה לזי׳, read with early eds. לזלזולי.

זדמא m., pl. זימי (v. זמם III) secretory vessels, nostrils, gils (Syr. זומא P. Sm. 1101). B. Bath. 74a זימיה (Var. אוסיה, v. Rashb. a. l.; Ms. O. זהוריה, Ms. H. קימיה, a. oth. Var,, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note).
זימה, זמה I f. (b. h.; זמם III) 1) [filth (cmp. זוהמא),] obscenity, libidiousness, carnality. Sabb. 15 2a בזי׳ שטוף excessive in carnal gratification. Snh. 106a של אלהיהם הוא ז׳ שונא אלו their (the Israelites') God hates libid. iousness. B. Kam. 16b (play on זנים, II Chr. XVI, 14) ז׳ לידי . , . המרדה כל whoever smells them becomes lusty. Ab. II, 7 זמה מרבה increases unchastity; a. fr. -- Ab. Zar. 17b (ref. to מזמה, Prov. II, 11, v. next w.) זי׳ מדבר וכ׳ she (the Torah) will guard thee from improper con- duct. -- 2) (homilet.; cmp. זמם I, דומה, דמאי &c.) suspicion, parental uncertainty. Sifra K'dosh., Par. 3, ch. VII הוא מה זה ז׳ שנ׳ ממזרים . . ממלא he fills the world with bastards, as it says (Lev. XIX, 29) the land will be full of zimmah, 'what is this person?; Yeb. 37b קאמר הכי היא מה זו R. El. b. Jacob means by immah doubots as to paternity.
זימה, זמה II f. (b. h.; זמם I) thought, plan, counsel; (in an evil sense) cunning, evil plan. Ab. Zar. 17b (ref. to מזמה, Prov. II, 11, and reading ׳tמ) וכ׳ מזי׳ מאי what do you understand by mizeimmah? Do you mean the Law in which the word zimmah is used in the sense of counsel (in Lev. XVIII, 17) since it is translated (in Targ. O.) 'counsel of the wicked' &c. -- Then it ought to read immah (divine counsel shall guard thee). --(Ans.) ה״ק וכ׳ ז׳ מדבר, v. preced. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 2). -- Deut. R. s. 2 (ref. to Ez. XXII, 11) במחשבה בזי׳ מאי what does this b'zimmah mean? Vith reasoning.
זימון, זמון m. (זמן) 1) designatian for a purpose, v. הזמנה. Ned. 7a מועיל ז׳ has designation the same effect as virtual use (=מילתא הזמנה)?; Ber. 26a ז׳ יש; a. fr. -- 2) sum- mons to appear before court; 3) appointment for a com- mon meal, the appeal to partakers ta say grace afer a common meal. Snh. 8a בנשלשה ז׳ timmun requires three persons, ז׳ ברכת . . . ז׳ מאי what is meant by zimmmun? Shall we say, it means the grace after meal &c. -- But we read וכ׳ ז׳ וברכת ז׳ g. and the grace &c. require three persons . . . . וכ׳ אזמוני ז׳ מאי אלא consequently, fimmun. (not qualified) means summons before court. Ber. VII, 5 לז׳ מצטרפים can be counted together for common grace. Ib. 45b ביניהם הז׳ ברכת אין (not המזון) the appeal and answer to common grace must not take place between them. Ib. למפרע ז׳ אין the appointment for a meal and benediction in commmon cannot be made retroactive (it must be made before the meal commences); a. fr. -- Pl. זימונים appointments, meeting places. Pesik. R. s. 33 כמה אתכם נזדמנתי ז׳ how many meetings have I not appointed with you ; v. ויעוד.
זימונא pr. n. m., v. זמינא.
זימזום m. (זמם I) intention, planning; conspiracy. Y. Hag. II, 78a top ז׳ כדי עד even the planning of a breach of law may be punishable in extraordinary times.

זימיא f. (~~~~~) fine, penalty, esp. the oppressive penalties of the Roman government. Tanh. Naso 10; Num. R. s. 11 למדינה ז׳ תבוא שלא that no cemia may be decreed over the district. -- Pl. זימין.
