חבצלת f. (b. h.; prob. a comp. of חב, v. חוב II, a. בצל; v. Ges. H. Dict. bb s. v.) young lily, before its leaves are unfolded. Cant. R. to II, 1 אותה קורא קטנה שהיא כ״ז וכ׳ ח׳ as long as the lily is small, it is named h,, when it is full grown it is named shoshannah; v. חבא.
חבק (b. h.; cmp. חבב a. אבק) to embrace, press, fasten. PPart. pass. הבוק, pl. חבוקין clinging to, creeping (of vines). Y. Kil. VI, beg., 30b לכותל ח׳ creeping up the wall. i. חיבק to embrace. Pesik. R. s. 3 וכ׳ ומחבקין באין they shall come and embrace Rachel's grave; a. fr. Hithpa. התחבק to embraee one another, make love. Y. Bets. II, 61c וכ׳ עם מתהבק making love to (hhy wife; Y. Sabb. II, 6 bot. מחבק.
חבק, Pa. חבק 1) same. Targ. Prov. IV, 8 חביקיה embrace her (Wisdom). Ib. V, 20; a. e. -- Pes. 11 1b חבקיה לדיקלאא (Ms. M. חנקיה, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note, Rashi אדיקלא נפלא, Rashb. אד׳ נפקא) he threw his arms around the ree. -- 2) to fold hands, cmp. חביננותא. Targ. Prov. VI, 10 (h. text חבק).
חבק m. (preced. wds.) junction; 1) loop of ribands on the shoe, ankle loop. Nidd. 58a ח׳ מקום עד the part of the leg to the place where the loop sits (is called the inside of the leg); עצמו וח׳ aml (if blood s found) on the ankle itself. [Oth. opin..] 'the place where the leg meets the thigh n a squatting position', Ar. --'the knee- hole with its sinews', Rashi. [-- 2) riband around the neck. -- Pl. חבקין. Sabb. 57a. -- 3) a band with which the saddle or housing of an animal is fastened around its belly; [oth. opin.] the housing tselfl. Kel. XIX, 3. Sifra Sh'mini, Sh'rats., Par. 6, ch. VIII; Sabb. 64a. חבר (b. h.) 1) to join, befriend, assist. Y. Ab. Zar. I, 39b top(ref. to Ps. L VIII, 6) [read:] הוא חוברו שהיה מי כל חוברו whoever assisted him (in his political ambition), him he befriended. -- Esp. חובר, pl. חוברים, חוברין having a share n the ownership of a sacrifice, v. חבורה. Men. IX, 9 (93b bot.) החו׳ לכל מניף אחד Ms. M. (ed. חברים) one of the compauy does the waving in behalf of all of them. lb. 94a בחו׳ נתמעטה is reduced in numbers as regards the participants (only one of them being required to act). Tem. 2a; Arakh. 2a ח׳ בעלי (sub. קרבן) partners of a sacri- fice (also קרבן בעלי). - 2) with על (cmp. זו) to oin against, protest. B. Bath. 11a וכ׳ עליו חברו his brothers &c. com- bined to protest against his actions. -- 3) to tie, fascinate, charm. Lam. R. to I, 5 וכ׳ וחוברין חובר מביאין they pro- cure a charmer and charm the serpent. Sifre Deut. 17 2 מרובה ה׳ he who charms large objects; Ker. 3b גדול ח׳; Snh. 65a גדול חבר. Ker. l. c. הוא הדין דבלאו חבר חובר but what kind of charmer (Deut. XVIII, 11) is he that is iable only to lashes (v. לאו)?; a. fr. -- [i) (cmp. חבל) to unshape, wound. Denom. חבורה.] Pi. חיבר 1) to join, fasten. Yalk. Job 927 (ref. to Jobo XL, 30) במצות עצמו שח׳ מי whoever befriended himself with good deeds; Tanh. Nitsab. 4 (corr. acc.). Kel. XIV, 2 לו וחברה (or וחברה) and he fastenedd the tube to it (the staff). lIb. משיחבר from the moment he attaches it, opp. משיחבל, v. חבל. -- Part. pass. מחובר. Ib. XII, 2 וכ׳ המ׳ כל whatever is fastened (belonging) to an object fit to be- come unclean &c. -- (לקרקע) מ׳ fxed, immovable, opp. תלוש. B. Mets. 89a במ׳ אוכל may eat of what is standing in the field (Deut. XXIII, 25, sq.). Peah IV, 1, v. דלית. Y. ib. 18a מ׳ ואינו and when the Mishnah says ובדקל בדלית, it does not mean וכ׳ בדלית במ׳ 'of that which is attached to the vine and tree'; וכ׳ הוא מ׳ תימר אין if you say, it maeans that which is attached, then the Mishnah means to say that the owner must designate the Peah while it is up (on the tree) &c. -- Ib. II, beg. 16d (in a passage misplaced and corrupted) מ׳ ואינו ממ׳ גרר הא this 'ffence' (Mish. ib. II, 3) is to be considered as something attached to the ground (like a growth) and (in other respects) as not attached. -- 2) to charm. Lam. R., introd. (R. Josh. 2) מחבר התחיל ההברים (notחביים מחבי) he began tto consult charmers (with ref. to Ez. XXI, 26). Snh. 65a לחבר מקטר he burns incense for charming purposes (to exorcise the demons); a. fr. Nif. נחבר to be joined, gathered. Gen. R. s. 80 (ref. to Hos. VI, 9) as the priests וכ׳ על נחכרים are grooped around &c.; Macc. 10a וכ׳ מתחברין. Hithpa. התחבר, Nithpa. נתחבר 1) same; v. supra. - 2) to associate, make friends with. Ab. I, 7. -- Num. R. s. 20, beg. וכ׳ מואב נתחברו Moab and Midian formed an alliance; Tanh. Balak 3. --- 3) to be charme, spellound. Ib. B'shall. 18 וכ׳ נתח׳ מיד at once the bird is spellbound (by the snake looking at its shadow) and falls to pieces; Yalk. Ex. 255 מת (read מתחבר); Mekh. B'shall., Vayassa, s. 1 צלו על מתחחבר (not אל ומת׳) it remmains spell-bound over its own shadow.
חבר, Pa. חבר ch. same, 1) to fasten, join. Targ. Ps. CXIX, 69 (Ms. חברו Pe.; h. text טפלו). -- 2) to combine against. Targ. Job XVI, 4 (h. text אחבירה). -- 3) to charm. Targ. Y. I Deut. XVIII, 11. -- 4) to wound, v. infra. [Y. Maas. Sh. V, 56b bot., v. הכר.] thpa. אתחבר, איחבר 1) to associate. Targ. Hos. IV, 17; a. e. -- 2) to be wounded. Keth. 5b חבורי או פקיד מיפקד דם איחבר is the blood (in the womb) stored up, or is it the result of a wound?; ib. 6a מיהבר חבורי דם.
חבר m. (b. h.; preced. wds.) (with suf. חביר־) 1) as- sociate, friend, partner (in sacrifices); colleague, fellow- student; fellow-being; of the same kind (also of things). Ab. II, 9 טוב ח׳ a true friend; רע ח׳ a false friend. Ib. 10 חברך כבוד thy neighbor's honor. Sabb. 63a top צוב בח׳ with a good frieml (an obscene disguise for a fair womai, v. גורדלי); a.vv. trr. -- ותלמיד ח׳, (in Babli) ח׳ תלמיד colleagtue and pupil, a title of distinction for a student, felow. Y. Shek. III, beg. 47b; Y. B. Bath. IX, end, 17b, a. e. ח׳ וכ׳ הוה ות׳ was a fellow under R. Ak.; Bab. ib. 158b. Ber. 27b הוה ח׳ דתלמיד who was a fellow (under Rab). -- 2) Haber, ellow, a scholar's title, less than חכים or זתן. Kidd. 33b (in Chald. phras.) ח׳ אנא, חכימי אתון ye are hakkime (doctors), and I merely a fellow. Snh. 8b, a. e. וכ׳ אינ ח׳, v. התראה; a. fr. - Gen. R. s. 84 (play on חברון) וכ׳ הנאה חבר that worlhy scholar buried &c. -- 3) Haber,
