חגג (b. h.; cmp. חוג) [to turn,] (denom. of חג) to celebrate an anniversary, to observe a festival, to make a periodical pilgrimage. Num. R s. 20 וכ׳ החוגגת אומה a nation that celebrates three pilgrims' festivals. - Esp. to offer the pilgrim's festive sacrifice (חגיגה). Hag. I, 6 וכ׳ חוגג . . . חג שלא מי he who failed to offer on the first day . . , Ihay do so during the entire festive seasol. Pes. 70b חגיגה הגגתם you have offered &c.; a. fr.

חגורה f. (b. h.; חגר) 1) girding, wearing apparel for travelling, outfit. - Pl. חגורות, constr. חגורי. Gen. R. s. 19 (ref. to Gen. III, 7) חגורי חגורות אלא . . . אין חגורה חגורות it does not say (agorah (a girdle) butt haigoroth which means sets of outfits; [Ar. חגורות חגורי חגור]; v. אסטכיואא. -- 2) an enclosure, rope-ffence, contrad. to מחיצה a. פסין. Erub. II, 4 (Ar. חגירה).
חגז, הגז m.. pl. חגזין (cmp. חגב, חגס) a species of wild bees, or locusts. Sabb. 106b וכ׳ ח׳ חגבים הצד Ms. O. (Alf. ed. Const. חיגזין, Rashi הג׳, ed. גזין, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 200) if one catches (on the Sabbath) locusts, haigazin &c.; Y. ib. XIV, beg. 14b ותושין חגיין, read חגזין ויתושין. -- Bekh. 7b והצירעין הגזין דבש (==הה, cmp. המסס; Makhsh. חגל (cmp. חגג) 1) to draw a circle. Targ. Prov. VIII, 27 Ms., v. הגג. -- 2) to go around, v. infra. Pa. חגל to go around (visiing, peddling, begging; cmp. P. Shm. 1191). Y. Sot. III, 19a boft. חגר I (b. h.) to encircle; to gird. Sabb. 63a ת״ח אם מתנד על חגריהו . . . if a scholar be even revengeful . . like a serpent, bind him around thy loins (be not afraid of him). Midd. III, 1 וכ׳ חוגרו . . וחוט and a red line went around it. -- Gen. R. s. 71 כנגדה מתניו ח׳ לא did he not gird his loins (in bold prayer) in her presence (Gen. XXV, 21) Ex. חגר II (v. חגר) to halt, to limp; to hesitate. Hull. 18a וכ׳ שתחגוור כדי a notch deep enough for the nail to halt on passing over the edge; Bekh. 37b; Tosef. ib. IV, 1 חוגרת והיא and it (the finger nail) is caught. Hif. החגיר same. Y. Pes. VII, 35b top היד שתהא כדי מחגרת enougb for the finger to be caught. Zab. III, 1 מחגירין they halt (do not stand firm).
