חוצה f. (b. h.) 1)=חוץ II; (followed by ל־) outside of, out of. Ab. Zar. I, 4 לה ח׳ outside the town limits. -- לארץ ח׳ outside of Palestine, foreign territory. Hull. V, 1 לא׳ בח׳ abroad; a. v. fr. -- 2) an outskirt, not in- cluded in the Sabbath community (ערוב). Erub. V, 6.
חוצה II f. (preced.) 1)= חיצונה, outsider, stranger (not related). Yeb. 13b (interpret. Deut. XXV, 5) אשת הח׳ המת the deceased's wife who is a stranger (to the brother); Y. ib. I, 3a. Ib. החיצונה הח׳ דרשין דאינון (the Samaritans) who interpret hahutsah like hahitsonah. -- 2) a strange, unnatural act. Yalk. Is. 303, v. חיצה I.

חוצלת f. (חצל, v. חצץ; cmp. מחצלת, ביריא II) matting used for partitions, coverings &c. -- Pl. חוצלות. Eduy. III, 4; Succ. 20a וכ׳ הח׳ כל all kinds of mattings are liable to uncleanness by contact with corpses; v. מרזובלי. Tosef. Kel. B. Bath. IV, 14 החוצלים ed. Zuck. (Var. חולצות; ed. חוצלות).
חוצנא m., pl. חוצניא (denom. of חוץ) outworks, outposts. Targ. Jer. LI, 12 (h. text ארבים).
חוצף, חוצפא m. (חצף) barefacedness, boldness, impudence. Targ. Jer. III, 3. Targ. Y. Num. XVI, 2; a. e. -- Sot. 49b (IX, 15) in the Messianic period יסגא ח׳ impudence will prevail (Snh. 97a תרבה העזות). Snh. 105a וכ׳ אפי׳ ח׳ boldness will carry its point even against. heaven. חוק m. (b. h. חק; חקק, v. preced.) [circle, drawing, engraving,] law, rule, custom; assigned share, mark. Erub. 54a ח׳ לבני אניח I will leave to my sons a due share (a fixed living). Sabb. 137b שם בשארו ח׳ He ordered a mark to be put on his (Abraham's) flesh. Snh. 111a אחד ח׳ אפי׳ שמשייר (some ed. חק) who leaves even one law unobserved. Ib. וכ׳ ח׳ אפי׳ עשה שלא למי Ms. M. חוקה, חקה f. (b. h.) same, esp. firmly established distinctive usage, religious observance. Ab. Zar. 11a שריפה היא ח׳ לאו the burning of costly materials at funerals is not a specific (gentile) religious custom. Num. R. s. I9, beg. חקקתי חקה I have ordained a ceremony (without giving a reason). Ib. four (laws) ח׳ בהן דכתיב in reference to which the word hukkah (rule without reason) is used. XLIX, 11) וכ׳ מחוור שהוא he will make clear to them the words of the Law; שהוא טעיותיהם להם מח׳ he will prove to them their errors; a. e. -- Part. pass. מחוור clear, proved, evident. Y. Shek. III, end, 47c שבכולן מ׳ the clearest of all the quoted Biblical evidences. Gen. R. s. 47, end; Y. Ab. Zar. I, 39d top שבכולן מ׳ the least doubtful of all. Y. Succ.
