חלב m. (b. h.) fatty concretion (cmp. חלא), esp. that abdominal fat of cattle which it is forbidden to eat, heleb (Lev. III, 17), contrad. to שומן. Kerith. III, 1. Hull. 113b בחלב ח׳ המבשל if one boils fat with milk. Snh. 4b חלב וכ׳ דכי וחלב heleb a. halab which are written alike, v. אם; a. fr. -- Pl. חלבים, חלבין. Ber. חלבנה f. (b. h.; cmp. חלב, חלב, v. חילתית) galbanum, a gum-resin used as an ingredient of franlk-incense, smell- ing like asafoetida. Ker. 6. Ibb; Yalk. Ex. 389 ייחה ח׳ וכ׳ ומנאה רע the smell of galb. is evil, and yet the Bible counts it among the spices (so are the wicked with the righteous combined in prayer).

חלד m. (b. h.; preced.) mould; trnsf. earthly life. Midr. Till. to Ps. XVII, 14 ארץ אלא ח׳ אין heled means earth (ref. to Ps. XLIX, 2). Tanh. Ki Thabo 2 (ref. to Ps. XVII, 14) מח׳ מתים הן they die away from this world, v. חלודה.
