Zar. 26a משני בציר שתא ט׳ דלא גרדנא (Ms. M. . . . טייזיאן משניה, read; טייזאן) a year (of) scarce earning will change (better) a weaver, if he be no proud fool. [Var. in Ar. s. v. גרדנא דלטייא ג׳ or דלטייה; Yalk. Gen. 133 . . . בצרא שמתא. . . .] [The supposed meaning of our w. of humble seems to have risen from a misunderstanding of a running commentary embodied in Rashi a. Tosafoth, where ט׳ דלא is interpreted עניו.]

טייר , טייר m. (preced.) divination from birds, augury. Pesik. Par. p. 33b בט׳ וערומים במזל יודעים שהיו they understood astrology and were shrewd in augury; (Pesik. R. . 14, v. אסטרולוגיא); Tanb. Huck. 6; ed. Bub. 11; Koh. R. to VII, 23 בט׳ ובקיאין בעופות קוסמין divined from birds and were experts in divination. -- Pl. טיירין (טיארין, טיאורין); הט׳ חכמת the art of divination. Ib. to X, 20 (ref. to עוף ib.) ט׳ בח׳ העורב הוא זה Ar. (ed. טיאריו חכמת, read ין. . . בח׳) that means, the raven (carries the sound) through the art of divination; Midr. Till. to Ps. *טיכוס m. (טכס) [stamping,] rampart, earth-dam. Pesik. R. s. 14 the sand stands before the Ocean כט׳ וכחומה like a dam and a wall (cmp. טיכסא). [It is not likely that our w. is the Greek ׳eto~, which is identical in meaning with חומה.]

טיכסא, טכ׳, (מטכסא) m. =h. טיכוס. Gen. a. s. 63 דמדינ׳ כי׳ על Ar. (ed. מטכסא) on the rampart of the fortress (in spite of the gates being closed); Yalk. Gen. 110. -- Pl. טיכסייא, טכ׳. Lam. R. to I, 5 וכ׳ ט׳ ד׳ פליג he assigned the demolition of the four ramparts of the TTemple mount to the four generals, and the western gate came under the command of Pangar.
