כוז m. (cmp. כד II) an oil vessel, used in the Temple. Tam. III, 6 וכ׳ דומה והכ׳ the kug had the shape of a large wine cup. Ib. 9.
כוזא f. ch. same, wine pitcher, jag. Targ. II Esth. II, 21. -- Sabb. 77b (playful etymology) כזה כוזה ed. (Rashi כוזא) it is named kuea--'like this' (give us to drink from). Hull. 107a רביעתא בת כ׳ a Kuza must contain one fourth of a Log. Sabb. 33b. Taan. 20b (Ms. M. אכוזא); a. fr. -- Yeb. 70a, v. כדא.

כוחל (כחול) m. (cmp. גחל, v. Lane Customs, 1837, p. 51 sq.) kohl, a powder used for painting the eye-lids, stibium. Sabb. VIII, 3 (7sb) כו׳ Ar. (ed. כח׳); Y. ib. 11b bot. כו׳. Hull. 88b והכ׳ השחור powdered coal and stibium. Snh. 14a; Keth. 17a (in a song) כחל לא here is no paint (no showiness). [Tosef. Nidd. VI, 4 כוחל, read; בוחל.]
כוחלא ch. 1) same. Targ. II Esth. I, 3 (2); Ber.18b, v. גובתא. -- Hull. 47b ככ׳ as black as stibium. Gitt. 69a top וכ׳ כ׳ מנתא תרתי two portions of stibium and one of &c. - 2) דכ׳ אבנא a species of black marble (b. h. פוך, v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Carbunculus). Kidd. 12a דכ׳ בא׳ אקדיש betrothed a woman by giving her a piece of black marble (of little value). B. Bath. 4a; Succ. 51b, v. מרמרא.

כוחלין m. pl. (used as sing.; v. preced. wds.; cmp. b. h. נפך a. פוך) carbuncle, name of a jewel. Ex. R. s. 38, end (corresp. to לשם, Ex. XXVIII, 19). [V., however, כחלי.]
כוחלית pr. n. Kohilith, a district conquered by John Hyrcan, [perh.=פח, Num. XXI, 30, cmp. preced. wds. a. פחםl. Kidd. 66a שבמדבר כ׳ K. in the desert. -- כ׳ אזוב a. species of hyssop named after that district. Neg. XIV, 6 כוחלי; Succ. 13a לית . . . Ms. M. (ed. לי . . . ). Par. XI, 7; Hull. 62b; Sifre Num. 129.
כוי, כוה, כוא (b. h.; cmp. כהה) [to cause discolor- ing,] to sear, cauterize; to scad. B. Kam. VIII, 1 כואו וכ׳ בשפוד if a person hurt another with a hot spit &c.; Y. ib. 6a,b (Mish. a. Gem.) כוייו, כוויו; a. e. -- Part. pass. כווי burn-marked, flame-spotted. Lev. R. s. 15 . . . חמורה כ׳ בנה ויצא ונכוית a she-ass was sick and was cauterized, and her child was born with a flame-mark; (Num. R. s. 9 מרושם). Hif. הכוה same. Neg. VII, 4 המהיה את וה׳ if one cau- terized the cicatrizing spot. Pi. כיוה same. Num. R. . c. אותה וכי׳ . . . הוליכה he took her to the veterinary surgeon, and he cauterized her. Nif. נכוה to be burnt; to be cauterized. B. Bath. 75a וכ׳ מחופת חופתו נכוה וא׳ אחד כל Ms. M. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) each man's tent will be stained by fire from his neighbor's tent. Lev. R. l. c. נכוית, v. supra. Num. R. l. c. אמו שנכות ממה because his mother had been caut- erized. Sabb. 30b; Pes. 117a חכוינה (his lips) be burnt. Tosef. Hag. II, 6 בשלג ונכווה . . באור וניכ׳ לכאן היטה if he deviates this way, he will be burnt by the fire, if that way,he will be frostbitten; (Ab. d'R. N. ch. XXVIII לוקה בצינה). Tosef. Hull. III, 6 וכ׳ ליכוות יכולה she may be cauterized and recover. -- Y. Sabb. III, 6b top נכוית והיא and it (the hand) is scalded (v. סלד). Y. Ber. II, 5b bot. וכ׳ בפושרין ניכוין שאתם . . . כמדומה I thought you would be scalded with tepid water (understand a slight hint), but you do not feel even hot water (distinct intimation); Bab. ib. 16b. --Y. Nidd. III, 50d [read:] יכוה דרישך רישיה ברותחין אפי׳ תיכוה לא ואתה בפושרין thy head's head (thy teacher's teacher) feels tepid water, but thou &c., i. e. you must not claim superiority to your predecessors (cmp. Sabb. 55a); a. fr.
