כינה, כנה f. (כנן, cmp. קנן) 1) nest, cavity, chamber. - Pl. כינים, כינין, כ׳. Lev. R. s. 14 Ar. (ed. קינין); Yalk. Job 905; cmp. כוננית. -- 2) (b. h. pl. כנים, collect. כנם) vermin, louse (also collect.). Par. IX, 2 שבתבואה הכ׳ the vermin in grain. Hag. 5a; a. e. -- Pl. as above. B. Kam. 82a מעיים שבבני כ׳ הורג (Var. in Ms. הכינה) (garlic) kills the parasites in entrails. Pes. 112b. Kidd. 49b; Esth. כינוי, כנוי m. (כנה) by-name, surname; attribute, substituted word. Snh. VII, 5 בכ׳ . . . דנין the witnesses are examined by using a substitute for the Divine Name (v. יוסי). Sot. VII, 6 בכינויו ובמדינה . . . . במקדש in the Temple the Divine Name is pronounced as it is written, in the country (outside the Temple) by its substitute (Adonai). כינוס, כנ׳ m. (כנס) 1) gathering, piling up. Kel. XV, 5 לכ׳ העשוי a vessel used for piling up (shovel &c.), opp.. לקבלה as a receptacle. Nidd. 49b הדחק ע״י כ׳ receiving (absorbing) lliquids under pressure (through pores, perfor- ations &c.) B. Bath. 68a העצים כ׳ בית (Ms. O. כונס; Tosef. ib. III, 3כניסת) store-room for wood. Snh. VIII, 5לרשעי כ׳ כו׳ gathering (living together) of the wicked is bad &c., opp. פיזור. Y. Kidd. I, 59d top שיער כ׳ מקום a spot of the body where hair grows in quantities. Gen. R. s. 32 (ref. to Gen. VII, 5) וכ׳ לכ׳ שיכון זה this is the execution of the command to gather in the animals. Midr. Till. to Ps. VIII (ref. to ויצר, Gen. II, 19) כ׳ לשון it means the gathering (the animals before Adam); Gen. R. s. 17 לכבוש וכאן (corr. acc.); a. fr. -- 2) (cmp. כנסת) retirement for prayer. Ib. s. 84, beg. (ref. to קבוציך, Is. X, 4 לכ׳ שהטילו who formed a partnership for business. Y. Hor. III, 48c (ref. to Prov.
