כלי, כלא II, Af. אכלי (v. preced.) [to assemble, call together (cmp. אוכלוסא).] 1) to call, give a signal. Targ. Jer. I, 15. Targ. Zeph. II, 15; a. e. -- 2) (of the lion) to roar; to shout, thunder &c. Targ. Ps. CIV, 21, v. אכלי. Ib. XXIX, 3. Ib. LXXIV, 4; a. e. -- B. Bath. 5a בעלמא עיזא בה מכלינן אכלויי v. Ar. s. v. כל; (incorr. in eds. לאכלויי לאו בעיא) as to a goat, we need only shout at her (to drive her off). Anokhi, p. 138a בכ׳ ונתנום and put them (the Cherubs of the Temple) in a box; a. e. --Esp. coffin with bier. M. כלייה f. (כלה) destruction, diminution, extinction. Ab. v,8 כ׳ ש רעב a destructive famine (general miscrop). Y. Ber. II, 5c bot. Snh. 63a כ׳. .. שונאיהם נתחייבו the enemiec of Israel (censorial change רשעיהם, euphem. for Issrael) would have been condemned to destruction. Gen. R. s. 10 כ׳ לשון .. .. ויכלו אין vaykhullu (Gen. II, 1) has the mean- ing of afffiction, of diminution (ref. to the reduction of the planetary courses afterAdam's sin). Ib. s. 49 (expl, כלה, Gen. XVIII, 21) חייבין כ׳הן they deserve exttinction;l['arg. Y. II Gen. l. c. גמירא עבדו כלייה, read; גמירא כלייה עבדו]. Mekh. כליל (כלול) m. (b. h.; כלל) entire, esp. Kalil, a sac- rifice burnt entirely. Sifra Tsav, Par. 3, ch. V; Men. 51b תקטר בכ׳ shall be burned as a Kalil. Y. Sot. III, 19b top בכלול קריבה is offered as a R. -- Men. 74a; a. e. -- Tosef. Par. I, 2; Zeb. V, 4 לאישים כ׳, v. אישה.
