כרבל (v. כרב I) to turn around, shake a sieve (cmp. חזר). Y'lamd. to Gen. XXII, 21, quot. in Ar. מכרבל.
כרבלין, v. כורבלין.
כרבלת f. (v. כרבל, cmp. הדר), crown, crest. Sabb. 110b כרבלתו יטול et him cut off his (the cock's) crest.
כרבלתא ch. same, 1) helmet, crest. Ber. 7a; Ab. Zar. b דתרנגולא כ׳ חוורא כי when the crest of the cock is white. Erub. 100b [read] דההוא לכרבלתיה לישמטיה שונרא וכ׳ תרננולא (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) may the cat tear off this cock's (my) crest, if I have (wherewith to buy) and do not buy for thee. -- Pl. כרבלתא. Y'lamd. to Gen. III, 22, quot. in Ar. (expl. כרבלתהון, Dan. III, 22) קסידין cas- sides (v. Koh. Ar. Compl. s. v.). - 2) (cmp. אדרת) a certain kind ofcloak. Ber. 20a כ׳ לבישא דהות . . חזיה saw a Sama- ritan woman (whom he believed to be a Jewess) wearing a karbalta (which was considered improper for a Jewish woman). -- Pl. as ab. כרגא (כרגא) m. (cmp. חריקא, a. Arab. harag) cap- itation tax, tax, tribute. Targ. Lam. I, 1; a. e. -- B. Bath. 55a וכ׳ אקרקף כ׳ karga rests on the head of man, i. e. is a personal liability, opp. to טסקא. Ib. משתעבדי . .. אפי׳ לכ׳ even the barley in the pot is seizable for k. -- B. Mets. 75b וכ׳ דאינשי אכ׳ זוזי דיהבי who pay the taxes for other people and force them to unreasonable services. Keth. 87a, v. אכרזתא.

כרוב I m. (b. h.; cmp. כרב I; v., however, Schr. KATג p. 39; p. 609) [head] CThherub. Succ. 5b; Hag. 13b. . . כ׳ מאי וכ׳ כרביא what is K'rub? -. . Childlike', for in Babylonia. they call a child rabia. Ib. לכ׳ והפכו and he changed it (the face of the ox, Ez. I, 10) into that of a Cherub. Ib. וכ׳ כ׳ פני היינו the face of the Ch. is the same as that of man, the one being large, the other small. Yoma 77a. Lev. R. s. 32; a. e. -- Pl. כרובים. Tanh. ed. Bub.
