כריה, כרייה f. (כרה) digging, esp. digging a pit through which an animal was injured(Ex. XXI, 33). Mekh. Mishp., N'zikin, s. 11; Tosef. B. Kam. VI, 13 מקול לפניו נפל כ׳ if the animal fell forward (into the pit) frightened by the sound of digging (within the pit), מקול לאחריו נפל הכ׳ if it tumbled backward &c. B. Kam. 49b עסקי על כ׳ for the act of digging a pit (although not on his own soil). Ib. 50a כיסוי דבעי הוא כ׳ ה״א Imight have thought only when he dug the pit he is bound to cover it up; a. e.
כריהא, כריחא m. (v. כרה) sufferer. - Pl. כריהי. כריחי. Sabb. 21a דמערבא כ׳ כל Ar. (ed. בריחי, corr. acc.) all sufferers of Palestine, v. קיקיון. Ib. 145b כריחי ed. Sonc. (ed. ב׳; Ms. Rashi כריכי, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note).
כריהותא f. (preced.) distress, misfortune. Sabb. 10a וכ׳ כ׳ Ar. is it such a misfortune &c., v. טרחותא.
כריותא f. (preced.) pain. Targ. Prov. XXV, 20, v. בריותא.

*כריך m., pl. כריכין (כרך) parasites, lichens, moss. Lev. R. s. 15 כ׳ עושה היא . . . זמן כל as long as the well empties into the garden, it will grow lichens (compared to leprous spots on the body, v. חזזית; Yalk. Lev. 554 ביין עשויה היא).

כריכא II f. ch.=h. כריכה, sheaf. - Pl. כריכן. Targ. Y. Gen. XXXVII, 7 כ׳ מכרכן Ar. (quoted in Rashi to B. Mets. II, 1; ed. פירוכין מפרכן).
כריכא III m. (preced.) bundle or band. - Pl. כריכי. Snh. 67b (of a juggler) וכ׳ כ׳ שדי cast ribbons (or bundles) of silk out of his nose. -- V. כרכא.
כריכה f. (כרך) 1) winding around. Tanh. Vaera 4 (ref. to Ber. V, 1) למלכות נחש כריכת . . . מה what led the scholars to place the serpent winding itself around a per- son side by side with the (Roman) government?; Ex. כריסו, ארגירא כ׳ m. (~~~~~~~~~, usu. (~~~~- av~poי) gold and ilver tax levied by Constantine the Great (v. Sachs Beitr. II, 140; Rapap. Er. Mill. p. 198, a. authors there quoted). Y. B. Kam. III, 3c top וכ׳ א׳ כ׳ אאהן as to the chrysargyron; before that tax is arranged, it is permitted to say (to the officers), 'this man is my fellowr- trader; when it has been arranged (and is being collect- ed), it is not permitted (because it would injure the person omitted in the list without alleviating the burden of others); cmp. אכסניי. -- P. כריסרגוריות. כריסטיונא m. (~~~~~~~~) charistion, an instrument for weighing or lifting (Lidd. et Scott. Gr. Dict.); scales for minute weights (P. Sm. s. v. כרסטונא, p. 1836). Lam. R. to I, 5 כרסטייתא Ar. (corr. acc.; ed. קרצטיונא).
כריסית f. (denom. of כרס) a leather bag, (as a meas- ure) B'resith containing one S'ah. Kel. XX, I Talm. ed. (Mish. ed. a. ed. Dehr. כריתית, Ar. ed. Koh. כרתית, denom. of כר).

כרישא II, כרישה m. (v. preced.; cmp. כרשינה) leek. Sabb. VIII, 5 (80b) כ׳ לזבל כדי as much manure as is required for one leek plant. Y. ib. VII, 9d bot. ליטע כדי כרישה as much space as is required for planting one leek. Makhsh. I 5; Tosef. ib. I 5. - Pl. כרישים, כרישין. Kil.I, 2 וכ׳ שדה וכרישי כ׳ (garden) leek and field- leek . . . are not heterogeneous, v. כלאים. Tosef Sabb. XV (XVI), 14 גוזזין כ׳ לו ed. Zuck. כרית f. (כרה) 1) the groove in the mountain slopes made by running water. Y. M. Kat. I, 80b top כדי עד הכ׳ שתפרח (ed. הב׳, corr. acc.) until the grooves bloom (are covered with vegetation). Ib. פסקו ולא כ׳ פרחה if the grooves have bloomed, but the rains have not ceased (set in again); Y. Ter. VIII, 46a top הכ׳ שתפוח כדי כד (corr. acc.). -- 2) (b. h.) B'rith, name of a brook. Targ.
