כרכם (reduplic. of כרם) 1) to draw a circle; denom. כרכוםII. 2)(cmp. כרום) to paint, varnish; to polish, bronze. Kel. XV, 2 כרכמן או סירקן if he painted or varnished the boards. Ib. XXII, 9 וכ כרכמו או שסירקו כופת a block which one painted or varnished so as to give it a distinguishable surface. Hull. 25b לכרכם Ar. to polish or bronze (metal vessels), v. כרכב. Tosef. Kel. B. Mets. VI, 1 לכרכם . . ואם שיכרכם עד if he intends to varnish (the leather goods), they cannot become unclean until he has varnished them. Cant. R. beg. וכירכמה סיתתה he chiseled and pol- ished the stone, v. מרק. -- פנים כ׳ [to brae the face,] to be bold, defiant (cmp. ירק). Y'lamd. to Num. XX, 8 quot. in Ar. כנגדן פניו מכרכם והוא (some ed. R. s. 99 ופניהם יצאו מכ׳ they went out pale-faced (abashed). - Denom. כרכום I. Nithpa. נתכרכם (denom. of כרכום I, cmp. ירק), with פנים 1) to look saffron like, pale, abashed, grieved. Ib. s. 20 פניו נתכרכמו he turned pale. Y. Snh. I, 19a bot. Pesik. Par. p. 38a; Num. R. s. 19 (some ed. נתכרמו, corr. acc.). - Midr. Till. to Ps. XVIII, 35 מתכרכמין ופניו and his (Abra- ham's) face turned pale (from jealousy); Yalk. Sam. 162 מתכרכמות אברהם ופני. -- 2) to become bronze-colored. Cant. כרכס, v. כרכם.
כרכס (b.h.) pr. n. m. Carcas, one of the seven attend- ants of King Ahasuerus. Esth. R. to I, 10 (interpret. by way of acrostics) [read] רשע אותו של ראה זנות וערכס תוs וכרכם (the Lord said to the angel) see the proffligacy of this wicked man, and tie them (like sheaves for threshing; v. Matt. K. a. l.); v. כרכסון.
כרכסא ch. form of preced. Esth. R. to I, 10 (an ob- jection to the interpretation וכרכם (v. preced.), because of ignoring the ס) כתיב כ׳ but it is written Glarcasa (and not Carcam).
ברכסון, read: כרוכסין (~~~~~~, sub. ~ ~~~~~; cmp. בריכסון) it has been announced. Esth. to I, 10 (ref. to זתר וכרכס, v. כרכס) כ׳ אמר דאת מה היך הוא יוני לשון Carcas it a Greek expression (see the proligacy . . . and publish it', מא~b~~k) as you say X~~eי, proclamation has been made.
כרכר (Pilp. of כרר, v. כרה) 1) to go around, go about; [b. h. to dancel. Gen. R. s. 20, a. e., v. כרכור. -- 2) to finish by designing circles, emblazon. Hull. 25b, v. כרכב. -- 3) to form a circle in order to make an announcement. Pesik. R. s. 21 וכ׳ על ומכרכר עומד שהיה למלך like a king standing and gathering a circle around him at the entrance of his palace; סיני הר על ומכ׳ כשעמד . . . כך so the Lord when he stood addressing a meeting on Mount Sinai.
כרכר (כרכד) m. (preced.) 1) whorl of the spindle (vorticulus), also shuttle (v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Tela). Sabb. VIII, 6 (81a) הכ׳ ראש (Y. ed. a. Mish. Pes. הכרכד, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) the top of the whorl; Y. ib. XVII, 16b. Bab. ib. 123a בכ׳ או בכוש תוחכין (Ms. M. בכרכיר) you stick itt up with a reed or a whorl; Y. l. c. top. Tosef. ib. IX (X) 10; Sabb. 92b; Sifra Vayikra, Hobah, ch. IX, Par. 7, v. לגז. Sifre Deut. 96; Ab. Zar. III, 9 (49b) כ׳ הימנה נטל Ms. M. (ed. כרכור, Var. כירכור, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) if one took from it (the Asherah) a piece to use it as a shuttle; a. fr. - 2) [turner,] a rod used for shaking olives down. Y. *כרכר, כרכרא ch. as preced. 1. Y. Shek. IV, 48b bot. ביניהן דכדכד שבטא (Bab. ed. דכדכדא, corr. acc.) the staff of the shuttle (the cane which brings the threads of the web into their place [arundo]), is between them, i. e. there is a great difference between them (cmp. 'stamen. secernit arundo', Ovid M. 6, 55).
כרכרן f. pl. (v. כרכר) dances, rejoicing. Targ. Is. LXVI, 2o ותושבחן בכ׳ (missing in ed. Lag.; h. text בכרכרות, cmp. Targ. II Sam. VI, 14 שבח for h. כרכר) with dances and songs of praise.
כרכש, כרכיש I (reduplic. of כרש, v. כרושייתא a. כרס) 1) to hollow out, v. כרכושתא, כרכשא. - 2) (cmp. b. h. קרס) to bend, bow. -- ברישא) כ׳ to nod assent. Erub. 65b רישיה . . . . כ׳ R. nodded &c. Nidd. 42a ברישיה ליה כ׳ showed his approval of it by nodding; B. Bath. 143a top.
