כשרות f. (כשר) fitness, worthiness, legitimacy. Yeb. 57a (in Chald. diction) וכ׳ בה מיתוספא כ׳ (by her mother being a native Jewess) has her fitness been increased (so that a priest may marry her) . . . or has her sanctity also been increased (so as to be subject to the restrictions placed upon a native Jewess, acc. to Deut. XXIII, 2) and she may not eat T'rumah (when married to an impotent); [oth. opin.; כ׳ legal status, Jewish citizenship;קדושה fft- ness to marry a priest, v. Rashi a. l.]. -- Kidd. 72bארצות כל וכ׳ כ׳ בחזקת the Jewish inhabitants of all countries (out- side of Babylonia) are presumed to be of legitimate de- scent, opp. עיסה. Num. כשרתא f. a fragrant root (same as קושט, the Latin costum, v. Low Pf. p. 357), putchuck. Ber. 43a.
כשש (v. כשכש) to knock, strike. - Denom. מכושה. Af. אכיש to strike, chase away by knocking. Gen. R. . 44 מתכשין . . . להון מכיש והוה . . . נסב Ar. (ed. מכתשין) Abraham took a knocker and tried to frighten them away by knocking, but they minded it not; Yalk. ib. 77 מתכתשין הוו ולא להון מכיש והוה . . . . thpe. אתכשש, אתכש to be frightened of by knocking, v. supra.
