II, 17 מ׳ ד׳ בה משייר leaves a little portion (of the wall) unfinished in remembrance of the destruction of Jerusalem; מ׳ ד׳ משיירת leaves off a little portion of her toilet. Hag. I, 5 מ׳ וזה זה if he has little of both. Ib. 8 מ׳ מקרא שהן the Biblical text for these laws is sparse. Gitt. 14a מ׳ מתנה a small gift. Sifra Tsav, ch. מופלא m. (פלא) 1) concealed, hidden; miraculous. Hag. 13a (quot. fr. Ben Sira) וכ׳ ממך במ׳ search not into that which is concealed from thee (mysteries of theosophy); Gen. R. s. 8 (v. פליאה). Midr. Till. to Ps. III; a. e. -- Pl. מופלאים, מופלאין. Snh. 16b (play on פלתי) מעשיהן שמ׳ for their proceedings are wonderful; Ber. 4a ברבריהם שמ׳. -- Trnsf. (in the phrase לאיש סמוך מ׳, arisen from איש יפלא כי, Lev. XXVVII, 2) a child whose power of dis- crimination is uncertain. Tem. 2b לאיש הסמוך מ׳ לרבות ish (Lev. l. c.) is used in connection with vows (ערכין) in order to include 'a doubtful person next to a man', i. e. a boy near the age of religious majority; Num. R. s. I0; Naz. 62a; a. e. -- Ib. 29b דרבנן לאיש סמוך מ׳ the rule that the vow of a boy of twelve years of age is valid is merely a rabbinical enactment. -- 2) distinguished, esp. muffla, a. special expert assessor at court to whom questions of law are referred, instructing yuudge. Hor. I, 4 (if a court gave a wrong decision) שם ביד של מ׳ היה לא in the absence of the mufla. Ib. 4b וכ׳ פטורין נמי. . . מ׳ היה לא so also, if the muffta was absent, they cannot be made responsible for their decision, because they ought to have informed them- selves and did not do so (therefore their judgment was not a legal act at all). Y. Snh. I, 19a top שלהן ומ׳ הוא היה וכ׳ he(the questioner) and the mufla of the courtt(to whom the question had been referred) went to &c.; Tosef. ibo VII, 1;Tosef. Hag.II, 9 מופלגג ed. Zuuck. (Var. מופלא). Sifre Deut. 152 (ref. to יפלא, Deut. XVII, 8) הכתוב שבמ׳ מלמד מדבר this intimates that the text speaks of the mufa; Snh. 87a top (Rashit מומחה). Cant. R. to III, 7; Num. R. s. 11 (ref. to סריס, II Kings XXV, 19) וכ׳ ב״ד של מ׳ זה the saris means the mufta of the court, who is called saris (mediator) &c., v. סרס II. -- Pl. מופלאין. Hor. 7a Ms. M. a. Rashi (ed. מופלין). מופת m. (יפת, cmp. יפה) confirmation, evidence; mir- acle. Sifre Deut. 83 בארן מ׳. .. בשמים אות oth (sign) refers to a phenomenon in the heavens, . . . . mofeth to one on earth. Snh. 93a מ׳ להם שנעשה אנשים men in whose be- half a miracle was effected. Y. ib. XI, end, 30a; a. fr. -- Hull. 10b הדור מ׳ thou prodigy of the generationl -- Pl. מופתים, מופתין. Tanh. Sb'moth 23.

מוץ (cmp. מצץ) to suck. - Part. מייץן. Sabb. 134a האי מ׳ דלא ינוקא an infant that does not suck. Ib. 133b אומנא מ׳ דלא a surgeon (circumciser) that fails to suck the blood out of the wound. -- Ab. Zar. 32a וכ׳ להו ומייעי and they (the earthen vessels) resorb the wine (Ms. M. דמצי עד וכ׳, v. מצי). מון, 1mper. of מצץ.
מוץ m. (b. h.; מצץ) [sucked out, dry,] chaf. Midr. Till. to Ps. I, 4וכ׳ שבבקעה כמ׳ תאמר אם you might think like the chaffa' in the valley in which there is yet some moisture &c. Gen. R. s. 83, end וכ׳ והמ׳ והקש התבן the straw, tthe stubble and the chaff were disputing with one another. Midr. Till. to Ps. II; a. e. -[Tosef. Ter. III, 17 מןהמ ed. מוצא II pr. n. pl. IMotsa, near Jerusalem (also named Colonia). Succ. IV, 5. Y. ib. 54b bot. וכ׳ ממצייא מ׳ מהו what is Motsa? Mamtsia . named Colonia; Bab. ib. 45a וכ׳ מ׳ ליה קרי . . קלניא מקום the place was named Co-- lonia, but why does our Tanna call it Motsa? (Answ.; as if מוציא) וכ׳ דמיפק איידי because its inhabitants are exemmmpt from royal taxes, he calls it A, (v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Colonia).
מוצא III m., pl. constr. מוצאי (b. h.; יצא) exit; מ׳ שבת(abbrev. מוצ״ש,מו״ש) the night following he Sabbath; יוט מ׳ the niight following a Holy Day. Tosef. Sabb. III, 5; Hull. 15a, a. e. במוש יאכל (or למויוש) may be eaten after the Sabbath is past.
