מחבא II, (מחבוא) f. (preced.) a rod with which hidden olives are knocked down (Maim.); [the working men searching after the hidden olives (other comment.)]. Peah VII, 2 המ׳ משתלך (Bart. המחבוא; Ms. M. משתהלך) from the time the mahdbe is gone; Y. ib. 20a bot. הלכה המ׳ (ed. Ven. הילכא); expl. הכרכר את משיניח (v. כרכר) when he lays down the searching rod; v. next w.
מחבוא m.. מחבואה I, מחבויה f. 1)=מחבא I. Keth. 27a אחת מחבואה שם יש אם if there was only one hiding place (where the troops did not enter); Y. Gitt. III, 45a top מחבויה שם היה (read היתה). -- Pl. מחבואים, מחבויים, מחבויין (b. h. מדבאים). Y. Keth. II, 26a שם היו, מ׳ v. supra. -Men. 63a (play on הלב(מחבת אמחבואי דאתיא it atones for the hidden (sinful) thoughts of the heart. -- Y. Peah VII, 20a bot. *מחבואה II, p מחבואים m. (homiletic trans- pos. of מבח׳, as if from נבח) bursting forth, idle talk. Men. 63a (play on מחבת) הפה אמחבואי דאתיא it atones for the outbursts of the mouth, נבוחי מנבח אינשי כדאמרי (Ar. ed. Koh. s. v. 2חב; מבחבוחי קא, prob. to be read נבוהי מבח קא) as people say he blabs'. [Our w. seems to be a corrupt. for מבוחי, formed like מבוע, fr. נבח.]
מחבוטא m. (חבט) stick for beating cumin &c. Targ. Is. XXVih, 27.

מחבלנא m. (preced.)destroyer. Targ. Prov. XVIII, 9; XXVIII, 24.
מחבלתא f. (חבל Pa.) travailing woman. Koh. R. to III, 2 וכ׳ ממשכנא דהיא מ׳ לה צווחין אינון she is called m'habbalta (v. חבל 1), because she is pledged in the hands of death (with ref. to Ex. XXII, 25). Gen. R. s. 60, v. חייתא II.
מחבת f. (b. h., v. חביתים) pan. Men. V, 8 אין המ׳ כיסוי לה the mahdbath has no lid; וכ׳ צפה מ׳ the m. is fat, and what is baked in it is a thick mass (contrad. to מרחשת); Sifra Vayikra, N'dab., Par. 10, ch. XII; Lev. R. s. 3; a. e.
מחגר m. (חגר) the rope around the neck of the animal tied to the wagon (Hai G. a. oth.); [the pin fastening the yoke to the po lle tto prevent the wagon from vacillating (being חגי), Maim.]. Kel. מחוג m. (חגג) drawing figures in the air, gesture. Ber. 46b במ׳ ליה מחוי he talks to him by gestures. Hag. 5b וכ׳ במ׳ ליה מחוו מאי ידע דלא גברא (difer. in Ms. M., v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) should a man who knows not what they indicate to him in gestures hold converse in signs before the King?
