מטלית f. (טלא) patch, strip; lining. Kel. XXVII, 12 וכ׳ חדשה מ׳ אף even a new piece of that stuf. Y. Meg. I, 71a top במ׳ וטולין and is mended by underlining a patch. Gen. R. s. 4, beg. לרקיע מ׳ יעשה let there be made a lining to the firmament (be made stronger). Kel. XXVI, 2 עליו טלה המטלת את (R. S. מטלית) if he underlined the bag. Tosef. Ohol. XIV, 6; Zeb. 94a; a. fr. -- Trnsf. a strip of land. Lam. R. to III, 7 (ref. to בעדי גדר, ib.) וכ׳ של מ׳ זו (not מטליה) that means the Samaritan enclave (between Galilee and Judaea). - Pl. מטליות. מטמוט, מיט׳ m. (מטט) decline, use of the root מוט. Tosef. B. Mets. VI, 18 (ref. to ימוט, Ps. XV, 5) וכ׳ הזה המ׳ (ed. Zuck. המיטוט) we know not in what sense this 'de- cline is meant; Y. ib. V, end, 10d המיטמ׳; [Yalk. Ps. 665 וכ׳ הימוט this yimmot &c.].
מטמון m. (b. h.; טמן) secret chamber, treasury; treas- ure. - Pl. מטמונים. Num. R. s. 9 המ׳ לתוך . . . התחילו the inhabitants of the city began to put their gold and silver in the secret chammbers of the fortress; Tanh. Naso 5. Lev. R. s. 1 במ׳ הולך he goes (to her) through secret walks (of the palace), v. next w. Cant. R. to ,, 1, v. חפ; a. e.
מטמונית f. (preced.) secrecy. - Pl. מטמוניות. Tosef. Dem. II, 9 במ׳ . . חזרו (Var. במטמונות, במטמורנית, corr. acc.) if they repent in secret, opp. בפרהסיא; Ab. Zar. 7a; Bekh. 31a. -- Lam. R., introd. (R. Josh. 1)במ׳ עובדיןאותן היו (some ed. במטמגיות) they worshipped idols in secret; Yalk. Ez. 348. -- Gen. R. s. 52 במ׳ הולך he goes to her in secret; ib. s. 74 (v. preced.).
