מעשר m. (b. h.; denom. of עשר) tithe. מ׳־ תרומת the tithe of the tithe which the Levite owes to the priest (Num. XVIII, 26); מ׳ or ראשון מ׳ the first tithe belonging to the Levite; שני מ׳ the second tithe to be consumed by the owner in Jerusalem (Deut. XIV, 22, sq.); עני. מ׳ the poor man's tithe, every third year (ib. XXVI, 12). Maas. Sh. V, 6; a. v. fr. - Pl. מעשרות (מעשרות). Maasr. מפה f. (נפה) 1) flag. Num. R. s. 2 מ׳ ונשיא נשיא לכל וצבע for each prince a fag of a different color. Ib. מ׳ צבע the color of the flag; a. fr. -- [Pl. מפות. Mekh. B'shall. s. 2, v. ממנפה.] - 2) (cmp. Lat. mappa, of Punic origin) napkin, towel. Ber. VIII, 3; a. fr. -- 3) bandage around a scroll. Y. Meg. I, 71d; Y. Erub. X, 26b top מ׳ עליו שאין ספר a scroll which is not bandaged (so that the writing is partly ex- posed).
מפוח m. (b. h. מפח; נפח) 1) mechanic's bellows, con- trad. to שפופרת blowing tube. Tosef. Bets. III, 15. -- 2) smaithy. Tanh. Vayesheb 1, v. ניצון--Gen. R. s. 84 לנפח פתוה שהיה, read; מפוחו, v. נסח.
מפוחא, מפוחה ch. same, bellows. Taan. 12a מ׳ וככ דמליא belows full of wind (abstinence without merit).

מפולת, מפלת f. (נפל) 1) dropping, throwing seed. Arakh. 25a יד במ׳ . . . זרע כור we assess the value of a. field by the quantity of seed... which it takes when strew- ing with the hand, opp. to שוורים מ׳ strewing from a. perforated bag or wagon drawn by oxen; B. Mets. 105b; a. e. - Y. Ber. III, 6c bot. יד במפלת with one and the same throw. - 2) falling in, debris. Ber. 3a, sq. you must not. enter aa ruined building for prayer המ׳ מפני because it may fall in. Y. Sabb. XVVI, 15a top המ׳ מיד . מצילין we must save (on the Sabbath) . . . persons buried under debris. Pes. II, 3 מ׳ עליו שנפלה חמין leavened matter cover- ed with debris; a. fr. -- 3) (= מפלה) downfall. Y. Ber. *מפוקים m. pl. (v. פיקא II) gliding, sinking. Koh. R. to VIII, 11 (in Chald. dict.) להוון לית . עללין רומיא הא מ׳ (some ed. מפיק׳) those haughty ones (or Romans) go , . go out, they never slip.
