משיזב, משיזבא, משיזיב m. (שיזיב) one who has escaped, refhgee. Targ. Deut. III, 3 (Y. משזיב). Targ. II Kings IX, 15; a. fr. -- Pl. משיזבין, משיזביא, מש׳. Targ. Is. LXVI, 19. Targ. Jud. XII, 4; a. fr. משיזבא f. (preced.) escape, delaerance. Targ. Ob. 17 (ed. Lag. שיזבתא).
משיח m. (b. h.; משח I) anointed, esp. 1) מ׳ כהן or מ׳ (v. משות, s. v. משח I, v. Lev. IV, 3) the high priest installed by anointment. Tosef. Meg. I, 18 משמש מ׳ כ׳ the active high priest; שעבר מ׳ כ׳ the unfitted high priest (prevent- ed from officiating on the Day of Atonement). Hor. III, 4 וכ׳ המשוח המ׳ ואיזהו what high priest is called mashiahb He who has been anointed &c. Sifra Vayikra, Hobah, ch. I, Par. 2, a. e. המלך זה יכול מ׳ by mashiah (Lev. IV, 3) you might understand the king. Ib. וכ׳ מ׳ זה המ׳ 'the anointed' means an anointed who has no superior an-- ointed; a. fr. - 2) הכ׳ מלך, or ממ the AMessiah, the future redeemer of srael from captivity. Gen. R. s. 2 (ref. to Gen. I, 2) המ׳ מ׳ של רוחו זה that means the divine spirit of the king Messiah (with ref. to Is. XI, 2). משיחה I f. (משח I) anointing, installation by anoint- ng, use of the stem משח. Ker. 5b, a. fr. מ׳ טעון (בעי) re- quires anointment (in order to be recognized). Ib. עדיפא מ׳ anointing (by drawing a figure, v. משח I) is preferable to pouring oil (יציקה). Num. R. s. 12 כיצד אהרן משיחת how was Aaron's installation done Ib. וכ׳ אלו של במשיחתןwith the anointment of these vessels were all the vessels of subsequent days consecrated. משיכלא m. (שכל, Shaf. of כול; cmp. מכילא, מכילתא) 1) a wash-basin. Sabb. 77b (phonetic etymol.)כולא מאשי מ׳ washing everybody', contrad. to משכילתא; כלתא משיא washing brides' (distinguished people).
