משך (b. h.) pr. n. Meshech, a son of Japheth and pro- genitor of a race of the same name (v. Schrader KA, p. 84). Y. Meg. I, 71b bot.; Yoma 10a, v. מוסיא.
משך (b. h.; cmp. משה II) to draw, pull; to seize; (with מן) to mithdraw; in gen. to stretch, produce a conm- tinuous line or foaw; to conduct. Kil. VIII, 2 למשוך לחרוש ולהנהיג to plough with, to pull (by the head, go in front of), and to drive. Gen. R. s. 86 וכ׳ מושכין שהיו,v. iinfra. Mekh. Bo, s. 11 (ref. to Ex. XII, 21) וכ׳ לו שיש מי משכו lead forth' (select), refers to him who has a lamb, and buy', refers to one who has none. Ib. מע״ז משכו witthdraw from idolatry. Ib. וכ׳ ממנו ידיהם את שמושכין that you may withdraw your share in the Passover lamb as long as itt has not been slaughtered (v. מנה); Pes. VIII, 3. Ib. IX, 10 מושכין אלו וכ׳ אחד להן the one company select one lamb, the other &c. -M. Kat. I, 3 וכ׳ המים את מושכים you may draw (con- duct) the water in channels from tree to tree. Pesik. Hor. 12a. איןמושחין מלכותן שתמשך כדי . . . kings are anointed at a spring in order that their government may be prolonged (cmp. Bag. l. c.). Ib. מלכותן נמשכה their dynasty was prolonged; a. fr. - 3) to be withdrawn. Tosef. Pes. VII, 7 להמשך רצו וכ׳ ולהמנות (ed. Zuck. incorrect)iif they desire to wiihdraw, and that others be entered &c. Ib. וככ׳ והולכין נמשכין they mmay go on withdrawing &c. , a. fr. - 44) to be drawn after; to follow. Ex. R. s. 24. Gen. Keth. 10b (the rain) וממשיך מעדן gives beauty and enlargement (to the fruits). - 2) to draaw, pull. Y. Kil. VIII, 31 top, a c. המשיכה הנהיבה וכ׳ if he drove the animal, or pulled it, or called it. משך I ch. same, 1) to draw, carry along. Targ. Y. Gen. IX, 20 וכ׳ נהרא דמושכיה (read; דמשכיה) which the river had carried along from &c. --- Zeb. 53b, a. e. משכו לגברא גברי the many brought the single man over (to their opinion). -- 2) to attract. Ab. Zar. 27b מינות שאני דמשכא it is different with heresy, because it attracts (per- suades, offers inducements). - 3) (neut. verb) משך, משיך to run in a continuous line; to be prolonged, continued. Targ. Y. Num. XXI, 35; Ber. 54b שיניה משכי his teeth were prolonged. Hor. 12a וכ׳ משכן מיא דמשכו היכי כי as the water runs continually, so may the traditions which you teach be continued. Ib. נהוריה משיך אי (Rashi משוך) if the light continues to burn; Ker. 5b. - [Ib. שתא סשכו, read; מסיק.] -- Pes. 8a נהוריה משיך the light (of a lamp or a candle) burns steadily, opp. איקטופי ממיקטף.
