משמש m. (preced. wds.; cmp. ממש) substance. Y. Ber. III, 6d bot. קיים משמשה its substance remains visible; קיים משמשן אין מים (not משמשה, ed. Lehm. משמוש׳) of liquids there is no substance left (when the spot is dried up).

משנים, משנין m. pl. (= משניים, denom. of משנה) teachers ofMishnah. Lam. R. introd. (R. Abba 2); Y. Hag. I, 76a, a. e. ומ׳ סופרים teachers of Bible and of Mishnah. Ex. R. s. 47 וכ׳ יושבין המ׳ שיהיו that the teachers of Mish- nah should hold sessions in the morning &c.; a. e.

משפט m. (b. h.; שפט) sentence, judgment; justice, law. Meg. 21a top; Snh. 11b וכ׳ ביום מ׳ מה as sentence can be passed in day-time only &c. Eduy. II, 10 וכ׳ רשעים משפט the judgment (punishment) of the wicked in Gehennas. lasts ttwelve months. Tanh.
