מתק (b. h.) 1) to be swect, palatable. Ckts. III, 4 עד שימתוקו until they are made palatable (by pressing). Gen. R. s. 85 לכם ימתק may it be sweet to (well agree with) you, v. כסף. - 2) to partake with delight, smack, gnaw. Yalk. Job 910 (ref. to Job XXIV, 20) מהם רמה שמתק the worm gnawed at them with delight; Gen. R. s. 33 שמיתקו מהם רמה (Pi.) the worms did &c. -- Yalk. Prov. 962 סופו עליו מותק להיות shall iinally feed on him; ib. 93 מותח (corr. acc.). Pi. מיתק 1) to partake with delight, s. supra. - 2) to sweeten, season. Tosef. Bets. III, 15 וכ׳ ממתקין אין youu must not (on the Holy Day) sweeten a mustard mixture by dipping a live coal into it; Sabb. 134a; Y. Bets. IV, 62c bof. Sabb. 90a קדרה למתק to season a dish. Hif. חמתיק to sweeten. Cant. R. to V, 16 (play on ממתקים, ib.) וכ׳ להם ה׳ he sweetened (softened) the word for them; Num. R. s. 10, beg. Hithpa. התמתק to become sweet, to be quieted. Y. Ab. Zar. l. c. מתמתקין . . . שהמים בשעה when the waters praise their Creator, they grow calm. Gen. R. s. 13, a. e. מתמתקים בעבים הן (some ed. ממת׳, corr. acc.) the salt water be- comes sweet in the clouds; Taan. 9b Ms. M. (ed. ממתקין, corr. acc.).
מתק ch. same, v. מתיק. Pa. מתק to taste, suck (v. preced.). Ab. Zar. 18b טמש בהא ומ׳ בהא he dipped one finger (into it) and sucked the other. tthpa. אתמחק to become sweet. Targ. II Chr. XIII, 5.

מתקל, מתקלא m. (תקל I)=h. משקל, weight. Targ. Ex. XXX, 34. Targ. Lev. XIX, 35; a. e. - Y. Sabb. XX, 17c bot. זוזא מ the weight of a Zus; a. e. -- Pl. מתקלין, מתקלין, מתקלי. Targ. Lev. מתקלתא f. same, selling by weight. Pes. 50bאשתו שכר מ׳ Ms. M. (ed. מתקול׳) the earnings of his wifeי means when she goes around selling (wool) by weight (but does not refer to woven garments). -- Pl. מתקלן, v. preced.
מתקנתא f. (תקן) a firm, decided solution. Yoma 70a וכ׳ מ׳ לה משכחת לא (Ms. M. 2 מתרצא) (from the words of the Mishnah) you cannot arrive at a decided answer, but you must adopt either &c.
מתרותא f. (תרא I)=h. משרה, infusion. Targ. O. Num. VI, 3 (ed. Berl. מת׳).
