Ib. וכ׳ מלבין שהוא נבל נקרא למה, v. לבן II; וכ׳ עבוד שאינו עור ע״י on account of the un- tanned skin and the arger number of strings it shames &c. Arakh. II, 6 וכ׳ בנ׳ אומרים היו לא they (the Levite boys) sang without accompaniment of nebel or kinnor; ib. 13b וכ׳ לחוד דנ׳ למימרא does this intimate that nebel and kinnor are not the same?; a. e. -3) a leather wind -in- strusment, a sort of bellows. Ib. (ref. to Ps. XXXIII, 2 sq.) ׳ ליה קרי ׳ כי קליה נפיש דידיה נימין דנפישי איידי לעוה״ב because the kinnor of the future will have numerous strings (ten strings), and its sound will be loud like that of the nebel, it is called nebel. -- Pl. נבלים. Ib. II, 3. Kel. XV, 6 השרה נבלי the instruments for secular music; נ׳ לוי בני those of the Levites (in the Temple). Ib. XXIV, 14, v. ממטסחת.
נבל, נבלא, ני׳ I ch. same, 1) lyre, nebel. Targ. Is. V, 12. Targ. O. Gen. IV, 21; a. e. -- Pl. נבלין, נבליא, ני׳. Targ. ISam. X, 5. Targ. Is. XXII, 24; a. e. - 2) (from its shape, cmp. Sm. Dict. Ant. s. v. Tela, Amer. ed. I858, p. 9b, explaining pecten and jugum) the upright loom. Y. Kil. IX, 32a top וכ׳ דעמר נ׳ מוקמה דלא not to put up a loom for wool in front of a loom for linen, on account of the fringes (which may become mixed).
נבלא, ני II m. (נבל)=h. גובלת, an inferior variety of figs. Targ. Jer. VIII, 13. Targ. Is. XXXIV, 4. - Pl. נבלי, ני׳. Gen. R. s. 49 נ׳ צדיקים אלא אינם דהא צדיקים הלואי I wwished, they were righteous, but they are only righteous men of an inferior quality (cmp. פגח); Yalk. ib. 83 (some ed. ניכלי).
נבלא, v. נבלתא.
נבלה, נבי׳ f. (b. h.; נבל) carrion, an animal that has died a natural death. Gen. R. s. 81, end ה׳ אחר להוט greedy for carrion. Ckts. III, 3 טמאה בהמה נבלת the carcass of an unclean animal; a. fr. - Esp. (ritual) an animal not slaughtered according to the ritual rules (v. דרסה, הגימה &c.). Hull. II, 4 ׳ בשחיטתה שנפסלה כל whatever has be- come unfit through faulty slaughtering, is called n'belah, contrad. to טרפה. Ab. Zar. 67bq. וכ׳ ׳ קרויה לגר הראויה כל that which is fit for the stranger (Deut. XIV, 21) is called 4'beloh (the eating of which is a punishable oftence), wwhatever is unfit for the stranger (putrefied &c.) is no longer called n'belah. Ker. 21a מנלן נבילתו whence do we derive the prohibition to eat it when unlawfully slaught- ered Y. Shebi. IV, 35a bot. (in Chald. dict.) דנ׳ בשר for- bidden meat; Hull. 95a ׳ בשר, opp. שחוטה בשר. Ib. מותרות נ׳ משום they are permitted as far as n'belah is concerned, i. e. they do not make unclean (Lev. XI, 39); a. v. fr. -- Pl. נבלות, נבילות. Ib.; Shek. VII, 3 ׳ איברים if found cut in limbs, they are forbidden, opp. מותרות. Eduy. VIII, 1. Ib. V, 1; a. fr.
נבלה f. (b. h.; נבל) 1) meanness, obscenity. Treat. lBer. Er. ch. II ׳ מדברי those talking obscenely. Ib. הדר אשתו עם ב7׳ who liveswith his. wwife in anmm obscene madfhneת; a. e. -- Pl נבלות. Ex. R. s. 24 (ref. to. Deut. XXXII, 6) ועם וכ׳ ׳ שעשו נבל 'a disgraced people', for they didt disgrace- ful things, as it is said (Ps. LXXIX, 2), they made 'the disgraced' of thy people food &c. (taking נבלת as if from. נבלה). -- 2) destruction. Gen. R. s. 38; Yalk. ib. 62 (play on ונבלה, Gen. XI, 7) נ׳ (עמהם) אעשה משפתם through their own lips I shall bring destruction upon them.
נבלות f. (b. h.; preced. wds.) obscenity, levity. Sabb. 33a פה ׳ obscene talk, v. נבל Pi. -- Lev. R. s. 5 (play on הנבל, Am. VI, 5) נ׳ דברי words of levity, v. נבל.
נבלתא, נבלא, נבי׳et.=h. בל. Targ. O. Deut.XXI. 23 נבילתיה ed. Berl. (oth. ed. נבל׳; Y. גושמיה נבלת) his corpse. Targ. Lev. XXII, 8(some ed. נבילא); a. fr. -- B. Bath. 110a; Pes. 113a(prov.) וכ׳ בשוקא ׳ נטוש)פשוט) fay a carcass in the street and earn a living, and say not, I am a noble priest.; a. fr. -- Pl. נבילתא. Ib. בנ׳ הפוך, v. הפך. --[Targ. נבע (b. h.; cmp. נבא a. בעבע) 1) to burst forth; to flow, gush. Ned. 41b הנובע מעין, a bubbling spring, v. בורים. -- 2) to give forth, utter. Midr. Till. to Ps. XVI וכ׳ נובעות והיו and they (the kidneys) poured forth wisdom &c.; ib. to Ps. I; Gen. R. s. 61, beg.; Tanh. Vayigg. 11 נובעין והייו וכ׳; a. e. Hif. הביע 1)to cause bubbling, fermenting(of ointment). Koh. R. to X, 1 וכ׳ ומביע מבאיש איננו . . . זבוב one dead fly does not spoil and cause to ferment the ointment of the apothecary, but by a single sin which one commits &c. (ib. IX, 18). - 2) to utter (speech). Ib. דברים מביעים they utter words (of praise).

נברא, נבארא m. (cmp. בר I; corresp. to h. סיב) covering, bast, bark (Syr. נברא fibrae palmarum, P. Sm. 2273).
