נגב (cmp. גב) [to have a crust,] to be dry. Ab. Zar. V, 3 (69a) ויגוב . . שישתום כדי as much time as would be required for a person to bore a hole (uncork), and close it up, and (for the sealing clay) to get dry; ib. שיפתח כדי ותיגוב . . (החבית את) to open the jug and close it up again, and (for the clay) to dry; a. e. -- Part. pass. נגוב; f נגובה; pl. נגובים, נגובין; נגובות dry. Hag. III, 3 ׳ אוכלים dry eatables (which have not come in contact with liquids and are, therefore, insusceptible of levitical uncleanness, v. הכשר); Tosef. ib. III, 11. נגב, נגוב, נגיב ch. same, to be dry, to dry out. Targ. Gen. VIII, 13; a. e. -- Y. Sabb. V, beg. 7b וכ׳ אינון נגיב כדו when it is dry, they name it Egyptian bean; Y. Kil. VIII, 31c. -- Y. Gitt. VII, end, 49a נהרא ו׳ the canal dried up. Ib. וכ׳ דייגב that the canal may dry up; a. e. Pa. נגיב to dry, wipe. B. Mets. 24a וכ׳ בגלימא ונ׳ wiped (his hands) on his neighbor's cloat; a. e. - Part. pass..מנג; f. מנגבא parched. Targ. Y. Num. XI, 6. Itthpe. אתנגיב, thpa. אתנגב to be dried up. Targ. Y. Gen. I, 9. נגד (b. h.) to draw a line; denom. נגד. Hif. הגיד (denom. of נגד) too show; to announce, tell; to testify. Tanh. Tsav 13 לאהרן והגידה . . . ומשם from there Miriam learned it and told Aaron. Ib. מודים שהכל מגיד וכ׳ this shows (intimates) that all agreed as to her beauty. Snh. IV, 5 וכ׳ גדולתו להגיד to show the greatness &c. Ib. 44b, a. e. (ref. to Lev. נגד, נגיד ch. 1) (corresp. to h. משך, נטה a. ארך) to strelch; to draw, pull, spread. Targ. Jud. XVI, 30. Targ. Deut. XXI, 3. Targ. Jer. XLIII, 10. -- Targ. Ps. LV, 4 דיגדון ed. Lag. (ed. Wil. יגרון;h. text ימיטו). Targ. Y. Deut. XVII, 20. Targ. Y. Ex. XII, 21 וכ׳ ידיכון נגודו withdraw your hands from (v. משך); a. fr. -- Succ. 4b וכ׳ אסיק גוד stretch and raise the partitions, i. e. adopt tthe legal fiction that the partitions around the stand are prolonged so as to reach the ceiling (v. דופן). Sabb. 101a וכ׳ אחית גוד stretch and bring the partitions down, i. e. adopt the fiction that the walls are prolonged so as to reach the bottom. Erub. 4b לגוד, v. לבוד.
