נוח m. (b. h.; preced.) rest; satisfaction. Tosef. Sot. XIV, 10 לישראל בעולם נ׳ ואין and there is no rest in the world for Israel; Sot. 47b בעולם ׳ אין there is no satis- faction (to the Lord) in the world.
נוח II m., נוחה f. (preced. wds.) 1) pleasing, kind. Ab. III, 12 לתשחורת ונ׳ לראש קל הוי be quick (to serve) to thy superior, and kind to youth; Y. Taan. II, 65b bot. תשח׳ ו׳ (corr. acc.). -- 2) easy. Gen. R. s. 17 האיש מה מפני וכ׳ להתפתות נ׳ why is man easily pacified, and woman not? Ab. V, 11 וכ׳ ו׳ לכעוס ׳ easily angered and easily reconciled, opp. קשה. Yalk. Deut. 845 וכ׳ שונא לקנות נה it is easy to acquire an enemy, but hard to acquire a friend; וכ׳ לבימה לעלות נח it is easy to be brought up to the platform of the court, but hard to come down (be acquitted); a. fr. - Pl. נוחים, נוחות, נח׳.
