עדן (b. h.) [to turn, v. עוד,] to be round, smooth, pliant. Pi. עידן 1) to make pliant; to bend. M. Kat. 16b (play on עדינו, II Sam. XXIII, 8) וכ׳ עצמו מעדן היה . . כשהיה when sitting and studying the Law, he made himself pliant like a worm, opp. עצמו מקשה stiffening one's self. - 2) to smooth, lubricate, to improve (the complexion); to refresh, invigorate. Cant. R. to I, 2 . . מעדן שמן מה וכ׳ מעדנים as oil brightens the appearance of the head and the body, so the words of the Law &c. Pes. 43a הבשר את ומעדן . משיר makes the hair fall out and im- proves the complexion. Y. Ber.
