עוגיתא ch. = h. עוגיה, rut, bed. - Pl. עוגיתא, constr. עוגית, עוגית. Targ. Ez. XVVII, 7; 10 (ed. Ven. עובית, sing.; h. text ערגות).
עוגל m. (עגל; cmp. עוגה, עוגיה) pond, reservoir. Tosef. Mikv, IV, 10 סאה ארבעים ע׳ a reservoir containing forty S'ah. Hull. II, 8, v. עונה. - Cmp. אגלים.

עוד (b. h.; cmp. עדה) to turn, return, occur; to con- tinue, endure, exist (v. Ges. Thes. s. v.). - Denom. עד, עוד, עת &c. Polelעורד to straighten, erect, help up. Midr. Till. to Ps. (XLVI, 9 מגודד . . . . כל וכי does the Lord uphold all widows and orphans? -- *Part. pass. מעודד; pl. מעודדים, מעודדין. Tosef. Makhsh. I, 3 מע׳ אחד שק (ed. Zuck. מעודר, Var. מועדר; R. S. to Makhsh. I, 4 מעורר; Makhsh. l. c. מלא פירות) one bag standing upright (closely packed); ib. שני מע׳ שקין (ed. Zuck. מעודדון, Var. מעידדי, R. S. מעוררין). Hif. העיד (denom. of עד) 1) to declare one's presence at a certain occurrence, esp. to establish a law from a wit- nessed precedent or traditional knowledge. Eduy. II, 1 וכ׳ ה׳ . . . חנינא ר׳ R. H. . . . related four things which he knew by tradition. Ib. 3 וכ׳ על ה׳ הוא אף he also reported as a precedent the case of a small village &c.; a. fr. -- 2) to testify before court. Ib. IV, 11 אותו מעידות . . שהיו מי he concerning whom there were two sets of witnesses testifying; וכ׳ מעידים אלו the ones testifying that &c. Macc. I, 1 וכ׳ שגירש.. באיש אנו מעידין (Bab. ed. 3a אאת.. .. איש) we testify about this man that he divorced &c. Ib. 2, sq.; a. v. fr. -- Hag. 5a להעידו וממהר and is quick to testify against hiim; Yalk. Mal. 589 בו ומעיד. - 3) to call upon as witness. Lev. R. s. 2 וכ׳ עלי מעידני I call upon heaven and earth as my witnesses &c.; rakh. 16b וכ׳ אני מעיד a. fr. - ) to forewarn, exhort. Lev. R. l. c. נביאים לשבעה וכ׳ מעידין והן . . seven prophets stood up for the nations exhorting them; בנו העידו לא they have not warned us; בדור מעידין הדור גירי the proselytes of every generatior are ann exhortation to their respective generation; a. e. -- Esp. to foreiwarn the owner of a noxious animal; to declare an animal noxious (v. מועד). B. Kam. II, 4 כל וכ׳ בו שהעידו, v. מועד. Ib. 24a וכ׳ בו שיעידו עד unless he be declared noxious (testimony be deposited stating the facts on which the declaration is based) in the presence of the owner and in court. Ib. וכ׳ שנים העידוהו if the first case has been ascertained by ttwo witnesses &c.; a. fr. -- Part. pass. מועד q. v.
עוד m. (b. h.; preced.) existence, strength; (adv.) still, ydt, more. Pirke d'R. El. ch. XXXII אברכך בעודי שאני עד while I am yet in my strength (of mind, able to dispose), I will bless thee. Ib. בעודו שהוא עד. -- Y. Kil. IX, 32a top ע׳ ואין and none more (shall be buried here). Y. Erub. VI, 23a שמאי דבית היא ע׳ this is still in agreement with the opinion of Beth Sh. Y. Peah III, 17a bot. בריא הוא ע׳ ולא when he is no longer well; וכ׳ עודה ולא when he is no longer ill. Tosef. Mikv. V, 12 וכ׳ הראשון עודהו (not עדיהו) while the flrst bather is yet in the water; . דגלו עודיהח [במים) while the first is still with one foot in the water; Hag. 19a. Tosef. Kel. B. Mets. V, 5 וכ׳ כלי שעודיהו מפני (not שענדיהו) because it is still a utensil, the girls sitting therein &c. Sabb. 151b בידך ועודך (Ms. M. ועדיין) and while thou art yet in thy own power (while thou canst still dipose of thyself, s. supra). Ib. 43a עליו בעודן when they are yet on it; עליו עודן שאין when they are no onger on it; a. fr. -- אלא ע׳ ולא and no more? But (also this), and not only this, but even more. Ber. 4a. Ib. 7b; Meg. 6b; a. fr. -- מבעוד while there is yet, during. Sabb. I, 5 יום מ׳ שישורו כדי in time to be soaked through during dayttime (before sunset). Ib. 6. Yoma 81b ומתענה מתחיל יום מ׳ he must begin the fast in day-time; a. fr. - [arg. Y. Ieut. XIII, 7 בעודך, read בעובך, v. ובא.]
עודדא, עודרא m. (עדד, עדר) = אודדא, tow-cotton, wool. Y. Sabb. VI, 8b sq. דאוניה עודריה נפל the cotton in his ear fell out.
*עודה f. (עוד, cmp. עודני Ps. CXIX, 61) [convolution, coil,] bundle. Sot. 46a; Ab. Zar. 23a שקין של ע׳ a bundle of (empty) bags; [oth. opin. in Rashi Ab. Zar. l. c.; the pin used for knitting sack-cloth.]

עורף m. (עדף) surplus. Y. Dem. V, 24c שבע׳ שני מעשר that portion of the surplus (over the exact tithe) which lawfully belongs to the second tithe. [Sifre Num. 126 הע׳ זה פתיל, read עורף, v. פתיל.]
עודפא ch. 1) same. Erub. 83a ותלת שתין ע׳ ואילו whereas the surplus (of the one measure as against the other) is sixty three egg-shells; [Ms. M. a. Rashi עודפת f h.]. - 2) greater importance, gravity. -- Pl. עודפייא. B. Bath. 88b עודפדיהו מאי wherein does their greater gravity consist?
