R. l. c. וכ׳ מע׳ שהוא מי הזה בעולם in this world, he who is crooked may be straightened again (a sinner may amend his ways) &c. Ex. R. s. 2, beg. (ref. to עלילות, Ps. CIII, 7, in contrast to Deut. XXII, 14) [read;] ודם בשר וכ׳ טע׳ עלילותיו he e liloth (machinations) of man are perverse . . ., but the 'liloth (dispositions) of the Lord are mercitul; a. e. Nithpa. נתעוות to be curved, wrested; to be perverted; to deteriorate. Koh. R. l. c. ו׳ . . . מעוות קורין אין we do not call a thing perverted, unless it was at a time straight (right), and it becamme curved. Ib. וכ׳ המים משנתעותו when the waters dating from creation became deterior- ated. Sot. 41b הדינין tנתעוות (or הדינין, v. Rashi a. l.) the courts became depraved. Ber. 14b דע׳ הוא שלוחא the servant did the wrong thing. Keth. 85a, a. fr. ולא שדרתיך לתקוני לעווי I deputed thee to do the right thing (to benefit me), but not to do it wrong (immpair my cause); Ned. 36a.

עותקא m. (preced.) old age. B. Bath. 91b מילי לכל וכ׳ מעלי ע׳ Ms. H. (Ms. M. עתיקא מעלי מילי לכל; ed. מילי כל מעליא עתיקא) for all things age is an advantage, ex- cept &c.
עותר, עותרא, עת׳ m. (עתר)=h. עושר, wealth, plenty. Targ. ISam. XVII, 25. Targ. Prov. XXII,1;a. fr. M. Kat. 28a וכ׳ דר עותריה R. Hisda's fortune; a. e. m. (b. h.; עזז) strong, firm; vehement, rough; (of colors) bright, intense; (of smell and taste) ptnagent, acridt. Yoma 67b (expl. עזאזל) וקשה עז שיהא the mountain must be rough and hard(rocky). Yalk. Ps. 852 (ref. to Ps. XCIX,4) you will find, וכ׳ עז שהוא מי he who is powerful does not care to abide by the aw; Midr. Till. to Ps. l. c. ed. Bub. עוז (corr. acc.). Ab. עזאזל m. (b. h.) Azazel, (Eort,), a rough and rocky mountain. Yoma 67b שבהרים קשה ע׳ Az. means the hardest of the mountains. Ib. וקשה עז ע׳, v. עז; a. e.
עזב (b. h.) [to cut of,] 1) to relieve an animal broken down under its load (v. סרק), help to unload. Mekh. Mishp. s. 20 (ref. to Ex. XXIII, 5) שאתה ופעמים חדל שאתה פעמים עוזב at times you may abstain, at times you must help. Ib. וכ׳ עזוב תל מנין פריקה whence do we derive the duty of unloading? It says (Ex. l. c.), thou must release with him; B. Mets. 32a. Tanh. Mishp. 1 וכ׳ מכאן קימעה נזוב loosen (the load) here a little, raise there &c. - 2) to leave, abandon. Sot. 12a; Ex. R. s. 1 (ref. to עזובה, IChr. II, 18) עזבוה שהכל. . עזובה Azubah is Miriam ... for all (young men) left her alone (ignored her on account of her sickli-- ness). Midr. Till. to Ps. X וכ׳ עזבני אמרה וציון and Zion said, he has forsaken and forgotten me. Ib. to Ps. XIII וכ׳ ועוזב . שמודה מי he who confesses his sins and forsakes (them, Prov. XXVIII, 13); a. fr.
