*עיים, Y. Yeb. IV, end, 6c רגלך דעיימך הן, read as Y. Kidd. III, 64d top; וכ מגליך דעימך הן he who is with thee (I, thy friend) exiles thee (advises thee to emigrate), before Samuel comes and disfranchises thee.

עיכוב, עכ׳ m. (עכב) keeping back, hinderance, pre- vention. Tem. 32a sq. בלבד גיזברין ע׳ אלא בה אין there is nothing to prevent the offering of the sacrifice, except that we must await the appearance of the Temple treas- urers (as representatives of the owners). -- Esp. hinderance, a circummstance which makes a religious act inralid, in- dispensable condition, absolute necessity. Y. Pes..VII,34b top (ref. to אש צלי אם כי, Ex. XII, 9) לע׳ הכתוב עליו שינה the ttext has an extraordinary (emphatic) expression about it to intimate that the roasting of the Passover sacrifice over fire is indispensable. Ib. II, 29b bot. תאמרת לע׳ the rule that the unleavened bread to be eaten on the Passover night must net contain any fruit juice has been laid down as an indispensable condition, opp. למצוה, v. מצוה; a. e.
עיכובא, עכ׳ch. same, 1) delay. Targ. Y. Deut. XXIII, 22. - 2) indispensable condition. Yoma 5a bot. היא ע׳ ככה the emphatic expression thus (Ex. XXIX, 35) intimates the indispensableness of any of the prescribed forms. Ibb ע׳ . . ושמרתם the emphatic expression, and ye shall guard' (Lev. VIII, 35) intimates &c.
