עימעום, עמעום I m. (עמעם) obscuring or sup- pressing the law, irregular measure passed in an emer- gency. Y. Shebi. VIII, 38a bot.; Y. Ab. Zar. II, 41d, a. e. ע׳ של מהלכות one of the regulations passed in an emer- gency contrary to the real law. Ib. לאיסור ע׳ ויש dare you pass a prohibitory measure contrary to law?; Y. Sabb. I, 3c bot. עין f. (b. h.; עון) 1) eye, sight, look. Kidd. 24a וע׳ בשן, v. יצא. Ibb וכ׳ עינו על הכהו if the master struck him on his eye and made it blind. B. Kam. 83b (ref. to Ex. XXI, 24) ממש ע׳ אימא may not the text mean that he who injures a person's eye must really suffer the same injury? Sabb. 108b bot. וכ׳ לע׳ יד an unwashed hand (in the morning) touching the eye deserves to be cut of. Taan. 8b סמוי הע׳ מן, v. סמא. Ib. בו שולטת הע׳ שאין דבר something which the eye cannot look at (being stored away), v. infra; a. v. fr. -- [Y. Ned.
