ערפלm. (b. h.; v. ערף 2) cloud; spray; mist; 'Arafel, the lower sky. Hag. 12b וכ׳ וע׳ ענן חשך darkness, cloud, and mist surround him. Tanh. Vayera 23 הקביה פתח הע׳ ואת הרקיע את the Lord opened the sky and the drafl. Mekh. Yithro, Bahod., s. 2 (ref. to הענן בעב, Ex. XIX, 9) ע׳ זה ואיזה עבה בענן in a thick cloud; and what is this? This is drafel; a. e.

ערץ (b. h.) to be strong; to frighten. Hif. העריץ to proclaim the power of, praise. Pirke d'R. El. ch. IV וכ׳ ומקדושים מעריצים they praise and sanctify his great name; Yalk. Is. 27; a. e.
ערץ, pl. ערצין, substitute for ערכין, v. ערף.
ערצוביאf. (emp. ארזבונית) a species of locusts (cmp. סppdfq, LXX Joel I, 4; II, 25 forr חסיל; Deut. XXVIII, 42 for צלצל). Hull. 65a; Sifra Shh'mini, Par. 3, ch. V (differ. from ארזבונית).
ערק(b. h.; cmp. חרק)[to pass. squeeze through,] (denom. of ערקא) to strap. Taoh. Mishp. 1 מכאן ערוק . . . עזוב loosen a ittle on this side, lift , strap on that side.
ערק ch. (preced.; cmp. ברח) to flee, run. Targ. Gen. XIV, 10; a. fr. -- B. Mets. 84a ללודקיא עריק ואת . . . ע אאבוך (Ms. M. ברח) thy father fled (from persecution) to A., flee thou to Laodicea; Y. Maasr. III, 50d bot. דערקת עד וכ׳ (I shall call thee so)) until thou runnest away and goest &c. Gen. ערק(ערק) m. (v. next w.) 1) a long and flat vessel made ofrush, Maim.; [oth. opin. sieve; cmp. ארק a. עדק I]. Kel. XVI, 3; Tosef. ib. B. Mets. V, 13. -- 2) bandage, com- press. Sabb. 54b Ms. O., v. עעדק II.

ערקבלין, ערקבנין m. pl. (prob. h. עקב; cmp. next w.) prickly creepers on palm-trees, palm-ivy (v. חרחבינא). Erub. II, 6 (25a) עקרבנין Mish. (Y. ed. ערקב׳; Bab. ed. ערקבל׳); ib. 26b ערקבלין, expl. חרוזיאתא אצוותא, v. אצווא; Pes. 39a ערקבל׳. Shebi. VII, 2 ערקבנ׳ (Y. ed. ערקבל׳).
ערקוב m. (עקב, Par.) [curve,] hough, ham, the inner part of the knee; the inner angle of the joint which unites the thigh and the leg of an animal. Bekb. VI, 11 העבל נב לע׳ . if the tail of a (first-born) calf does not reach the arkub; אמרו ע׳ לאיזה which arkub (curve) is meant? הירך שבאמצע לע׳ the arkub in the thigh, expl. ib. 41a וכ׳ קפןהעליונה the upper oint (the inner part of the knee), not the lower joint (knuckle); Tosef. ib. IV, 14. Tam. IV, 2 (31a) וכ׳ ערקובו מתוך נוקבו Bab. ed. (Mish. ערכובו) he makes a hole through its ham and suspends it.

ערר, Pi. עירר (v. ערער I) [to stir up,] to protest, contest, obyect. Y. Gitt. I, 43c top בטל עררו ועי׳ בא אם if the hus- band comes and contests (the validity of his letter of divorce), his ojection is null and void. Ib. ערר הוא וכ׳ ע הוא משנישאת it is all the same whether he objects after she has remarried or before it. Y. Keth. I, beg. 26a וכ׳ עורר מי נתאלמנה if she is a widow, who objects (op- poses the woman's claim) ? Gitt. I, 3 עוררים עליו יש אם if there are contestants against it (the letter of divorce); a. fr. Hithpa. התערר to be stirred up. Tosef. Sot. II, 2 אפי׳ עליה מתעררין המים . . Var. (ed. Zuck. מתרערעין היה המים, read; מתר׳ המים or מתערערין) even if she goes astray twenty years afterwards, the waters will be stirred up (work injury) in her body.
