XIV, 22) עשר שתתעשר בשביל give tithes in order that thou become rich. B. Bath. l. c. רuמתע שמתחכם מתוך for when he grows wise, he will also grow rich; (Ms. M. מעשרתו חכמתו his wisdom makes him rich). עשר, Pi. עשר (b. h.; denom. of עשר) 1) to give one- tenth, separate tithes. Sabb. 119a וכ׳ עשר, v. עשר. Maasr. IV, 2 לעשרן ושכחו but had forgotten to pay the tithe of them. Sabb. II, 7 עשרתם have you set aside tithes (of what you intend to use for the Sabbath)? Ib. אין . . ספק הודאי את מעשרין if it is doubtful whether or not night has set in, you must not separate the tithes of what is sure to be subject to tithes (v. דמאי); a. v. fr. -- Part. pass. מעושר; f. מעושרת; pl. מעושרים, מעושרין; מעוששרות. עשרון m. (b. h.; preced. wds.) one-tenth of an Ephah, issaron. Men. XIII, 1 וכ׳ ע׳ עלי הרי iff a person says, I vow an ssaron, he must offer one minhah. Ib. 2 מנחה ע׳ ששים של a meal offering of sixty issarons; a. fr. -- Pl. עשרונים, עשרונות. Ib. 1 וכ׳ יביא ע׳ (Bab. ed. 104b עשרונות) if a person says, l vow esronim, he must offer ttwo minhahs. Ib. ששים ועד מאחד ע׳ של מנחות יביא he must bring (sixty) offerings of esronim, beginning with one issaron and progressing up to sixty; a. e.

עששיתf. (v. אשש a. עשת) 1) ברזל של ע׳ wrought iron, bar, ball. - Pl עששיות. Yoma 34b וכ׳ ברזל של ע׳ lumps of wrought iron were heated for the high priest on the eve of the Day of Atonement; Tosef. ib. I, 20 (Var. עששית); Y. ib. III, 40c עששות. Ab.
