פוזקמי, v. preced.
פוח (b. h.) to blow, blow up; נפש פ׳ to blow the soul out, to dishearten. Num. R. s. 20 לפוח אצלו הולך אני מה נפשו את why should I go to him (Balak) to dishearten him ;Tanh. Balak 13. -- [Y. Ter. VIII, 46a top הכרית שתפוח, read; שתפרח, v. כרית.] Hiff. הפיח 1) same, esp. to break wiad. Sabb. 49a; 130a בהן יפיח שלא that he will not desecrate the T'fllin by passing winds. Ab. Zar. 17a הפיחה she broke &c.; a. e. -- 2) to stir up. Midr. Till. to Ps. III הישן את חפיחו אל do not stir up that which slumbers (do not disturb the ac- cepted order of the psalms); Yalk. ib. 624 (not תפיחי). . פוח ch. same, 1) to blow. Y. Snh. I, 18c bot. פח (ed. Krot. פה, corr. acc.); Y. R. Hash. I, 58b top פוח blow, breathe , v. יפח. -- 2) to evaporate, (with נפשא) to despair. Targ. Y. Num. XXI, 30 נפשיהון דיפח עד until they are in despair (h. text נפח עד). - 3) to cool of, be sobered. Targ. Esth. II, 1 (ed. Lag. פג).
פוחא m., פוחתא f. (preced.) breath, wind. Targ. Job XXX, 22 (ed. Lag. רוחא). Ib. XX, 3 (ed. Lag. פרחא, corr. acc., or כרוחא). Targ. Prov. XI, 29 פוחתא Bxt. (ed. Lag. פהתא, ed. Wil. פהתא, corr. acc.).

פוחת m. (פחת) a scraping tool, chisel (?). Tosef. Kel. B. Bath. VII, 3 הפ׳ ובן הפ׳ יד quot. in R. S. to Kel. XXIX, 8 (ed. Zuck. הפחות ובין הפחות יד) the handle of a large or of a small scraper.

*פוטא m. (~ז~, pl. ~0~~) lights. Ylamd. to Num. X, 29, quot. in Ar. שאת (כמו) טובים במעשים שהאיו פוטיאל פ׳ ביונית אומר (ed. Koh. פוטיא) Hobab is surnamed Putiel (Ex. VI, 25), because he shone through good deeds, as you say in Greek phota.

פוטיאל (b. h.) pr. n. m. Putiel, the father-in-law of Elazar, son of Aaron, in Agadah identified with Jethro (and also with Joseph). Mekh. Yithro, 'Amal., s. 1 פוט׳ מעל שנפטר Jethro was surmnamed Putiel, because he withdrew from idolatry. B. Bath. 109b, a. e., v. פטם a. פוטא.
פוטיולין (variously corrupted) pr. n. pl. Puteoli, a. great sea-town of taly. Macc. 24a רומי של המונה קול שמעו וכ׳ מאה ברחוק מפ׳ (ed. מפלטיה בבל, margin. vers. מפטילוס; Ms. M. מפלטוס, v. Rabb. D. S. a. . note) they heard the din of the city of Rome (on travelling) from P., at a distance of one hundred and seventy miles; Lam. R. to V, 18 פוטליילוס; Sifre Deut. 43מפטילו של (v. המייה); Yalk. Is. 278 מפניליאוס. [The termination יוס in the above forms corresponds to the accus. bb~, -os.]

פוטינוס m. (~m~~~) bright, splendid. Tanh. ed. Bub., Vayesheb 16 ונעשה פרעה של לביתו שנכנם פוטיפר וכ׳ פוטינוס ביתו his name was Potifar (mo~pb~), be- cause he entered the house of Pharaoh, and his house became bright, for he brightened up the house of Pharaoh; Gen. R. s. 86 (differ. paronomasia) שירד כיון . פורע שהיה פוטינוון נעשה לשם הפר Ar. (ed. פויטנון) he used to uncover himself before the idol, but when the bullock (Joseph, Deut. XXXIII, 17) came there, he (Potifar) became en- lightened; Yalk. ib. 145 פ׳ יוסף שירד וכיון [lossator explains עשיר rich, v. Gen. XXXIX, 5].
פוטירין m. (~~~~~~) poterion, name of a shrub (Astragalus Poterium), a species of tragacanth, yielding a gum which was used for spicing wines; פ׳ פיילי a vial of poterion, a medicinal drink taken atter bathing. Gen. R. s. 51 (ref. to כוסם מנת, Ps. XI, 6) המרחץ לאחר פ׳ כפ׳ (not פיטרין) like the vial of poterion after a bath; Y. Pes. X, 37c top וכ׳ פ׳ כדיפלי ם׳ דיפלי (corr. acc.); Yalk. Ps. 655 (not פוטרין). Gen. R. s. 10 יין של פ׳ פ׳ הביאו שיצא כיון לשתותו when he (Titus) came out of the bath, tthey handed him a vial of poterion wine to drink; Koh. R. to V,8 כוס יין של פ׳ פ׳ (not פוטרין). Gen. R. s. 88 פ׳ בתוך נמצא ובוב שלו פ׳ a fy was found in his (Pharaoh's) vial &c.; Yalk. ib. 146 פושרין סילי (corr. acc.).
