פסילוס m. (~~~~~) one unable to pronounce certain letters, stammerer. Lev. R. s. 10, beg. פ אותו קורין והיו and they called him (Amos) the stammerer; Yalk. Is. 307, v. עמס. Pesik. Nahimu, p. 125b his name was Amos בלשונו פ׳ שהיה (not שהיו) because he hesitated in his speech. -- Pl. פסילים. Y. Ned. פסיליא, פסילייה m. (v. next art.) aninferior kind of beans (cmp. פיישונא). Ab. Zar. 38b פ׳ היא המטליא היא וכ׳ Ar. (Ms. M. פסליא; ed. פשליא) the same law applies tto gentile preparations of hemalia, psilia and sוh(symbol characters)itha, v. המטליא a. שעתא. Y. Bets.
