Yoma53b וכ׳ לאחוריו פ׳ שלש שיפסיע צריך המתפלל he who is in prayer (when a person enters), must pass three steps backward (when he ends his prayer), and then tturn around to salute. פסיפס פספס, פיס׳ m. (פסס, cmp. פסיסית) 1) cut and polished stone block, used for paving foors, stone pavementt, mosaic. Ab. d'R. N. ch. XXVIII שיש פסי׳ אאבן וכ׳ ed. Schechter (ed. פיספס) a paving block which has four poliished sides (a metaphor for a many-sided scholar). Y. Sabb. VII, 10b top פ׳ שם בשאין where there is no stone pavement. Ib. XII, beg. 13a (0Chald. dict.) פ׳ מקטע he who trims a paving stone (or die, v. infra). Ex. R. s. 10 בתיהם בפ׳ בשיש . . . גדולים של the houses of the nobles which were paved with marble or blocks; Yalk. Sam. 102 בתי והפספסים השיש (pl.); Yalk. Ps. 820 הפ׳ ובתי השיש בתי (Midr. Till. to Ps. פסיקא I f. (פסק) 1) part, fraction. B. Bath. 62b, sq.. contrad. to פלגא. -- 2) sabscription for charity, collection. Lev. R. s. 32, end בציבורא פ׳ לך עבדין ואנן and we shall arraoge a collection for you in the assembly; ליה עבדון פ׳ they made up a purse for him. Ib. s. 5 פסיקה עביד וכ׳ למתן (not למיתן) arranged a subscription for a charity in the college of Tiberias. -- 3)ס פסוקא, verse. -- Pl. פיקן, v. פסוקא.

פסיקה f. (פסק) 1) cutting apart. Succ. 11a פסיקתן עשייתן היא זו cutting the threads apart is the making of them (the show fringes). -- 2) separated thread. Neg. XI, 8 וכ׳ אחת פ׳ אפי׳ even if only one separate thread was on the coil, and he knotted it. -- Pl. פסיקות. Ib. פ׳ היתה f the coil consisted of separate threads.

פסיקיא, פסיקיה, פסק׳ f. (an adapt. of fascls. as if from פסק) band or fillet worn by women over the breast; girdle; bandage round the legs and feet. Targ. Is. III, 24 פסיקיא (pl. form). -- Y. Snh. X, 28d bot. תחת הברזל את בתן שלו פ׳ he put the iron point of his spear under his fascia. Sabb. XV, 2 (111b) פסי׳ ושל (Bab. ed. פסקיא) and the cords of the breast bandage. Ib.
