פסע ch. same, to walk with legs wide apart, waddle. Targ. II Sam. XX, 8 (h. text ותפלI), v. פסע. -- Pes. 111b אדיקלא דפ׳ מאן האי (Ms. M. דמיפסע lthpe.) he who steps over a (young) date palm. -- V. פצי. Pa. פסע to step heavily, pompously. Yeb. 105b אאגב ואזיל מפסע הוה יוקריה on account of his heavy build he stepped in and walked (through the assembled students, making the impression of haughtiness), v. preced. -- Y. Ber. פסף, Pa. פסף, v. פספס II.
פספס I (v. פסס) to separate, part, tear (into stripes, shreds). Midr. Till. to Ps. VII, 3 ומפספסו . . . האריה מה לפספסני . . כך (Var. in Ms. מפצפצ׳, v. ed. Bub. note) as the lion sits over his prey and tears it, so Doeg and Ahithophel sit over me to tear me; Yalk. Ps. 637; Midr. Tillנ to Ps. XXII, 17. Sabb. XXIV, 2 הכיפים את מפספסים you may (untie and) spread the bundles (of fodder), v. כיפה. Ib. 155a להתיר ולא לפספם לא neither to spread nor even to untie. Tosef. ib. III (IV), 18 הכפין את מפספסין וכ׳ ובלבד(Var. ומפרכססין, iincorr.)you may part the bundles, provided you do not pluck them apart. Naz. VI, 3 נזיר ומפספס חופף the Nazarite may wash his hair (v. חפף) and part it (with his fingers), but must not use a comb. Y. ib. פספס II (transpos. of ספסף; cmp. געגע) to cut the ends, trim by singeing Tosef. Pes. V, 10 אבל . . . אין באור אותן מפספסין you dare not scald the head and feet (of the Passover lamb) . . ., but you may trim them by holding them over the fire; Tosef. Bets. III, 19 (Var. מספסין; Bets. 34a מהבהבין). Y. ib. IV, 62c bot. מפספסין אין quot. in Levy (ed. Krot. מספספ׳), v. סססף. ספט ch. (apocop. פש; cmp. כסך a. כסשס) same. Y. Sabb. II, 5a (expl. מחרכין) לין מפספסין (ed. Krot. מפספין) they trim them (the wicks, by burmning).

פסק (b. h. פשק) [to separate, part, distribute,] 1) to divide, split, interrupt. Taan. 27b; Meg. 22a פושק the reader divides (one verse), i.. e. the first reads two verses and a half, leaving the other half to be read by his successor. Ib. וכ׳ לפסוק לי התיר לא he permitted me to cut a verse in two only in teaching the school children. Ib. 31b פוסק תורה במשנה the chapter in Deutero- nomy containing the curses (Deut. XXVIII, 15 ---69) may be divided (to be read by two or more); a. fr. -[Gen. R. s. 10 שפסקה כיון; Yalk. ib. 16 ששפוסקה, v. פתק.) - Part. pass. פססוק; f פסוקה. Hull. III, 3 הגרגרת פסוקת, v. גרגרת. - 2) (denom. of פסוק) to recite a verse. Hag. 15a, sq. פסוק פסוקך לי (interch. with Chald. פסוקיך לי פסוק) recite to me thy Bible verse (recently learned). -3) (cmp. חתך, גזר) to apportion, assign; to provide; to promise, agree. Keth. 65 לאשה יינות פוסקין אין in decreeing alimentatuon for a woman we do not provide for wine. Ib. חפשסקו כך לבנותיכם so much (and no more) may ye grant to your daughters. Ib. 107a איש לאשת מזונות פוסקין the court assigns alimentation (from the estate) to a deserted wife, Ib. V, 8 וכ׳ אלא . . . פ׳ לא only R. Y. decreed barley as a. part of alimentation, because he lived near Edom. Ib. וכ׳ לעומתן פוסק he must give her &c., v. עומה. Ib.
