פרדכת m. (Pers. pardakhta, Perl. Et. St. p. 18) idle, man of leisure, one exempt from state taxes. B. Bath. 55a מתא מסייע פ׳ a pardakht is bound to contribute towards the maintenance of the local institutions.

פרדנית f. (פרד; cmp. פרד II) a woman that goes out alone, run-about. Tanh. Vayesheb 6 תהא שלא הרגל מן לא פדרנית (transpos. of פרד׳) the Lord did not create woman out of Adam's foot, that she might no be inclined to run about; (Gen. R. s. 18, a. e. פרסנית). Tanh. פרדס, פרדיסא ch. same. Targ. Y. II Gen. XXI, 33 (h. text אשל, v. preced.). -- B. פרדסקין(פרסטקין, פרסתק׳) m. (a corrupז of סoptrאo~su armarium, v. Frainkel, Zeitschr. f Assyriol., April 1894, p. t) a chest in the wall, closet. Tosef. Ohol. VII, 13 פ׳ שעשאה תיבהR. S. to Chol. VI, 7(ed. Zuck. פרסטק׳, פרסתק׳) a chest which one put up in the wall as a closet. Ib. 14 וכ׳ פתוח שהוא פ׳ a closet standing open in a locked room. Ib. 15; Ohol. VI, 7 וכ׳ הוא כאילו הפ׳ את רואין (ed. פרדשכא, פרדכשא m. (a further corrupt. of פרדיסקי I, v. Perl. Et. Sl. p. 132) offcer, policeman. Meg. 12b (ref. to Esth. I, 22) ליהוי פ׳ בביתיה קרחה אפי׳ פשיטא (Ar. פרדכ׳; Ms. M. פרד׳, read כ for ג;; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) is it not a matter of course Even a weaver-iin his house he must be the police; Yalk. פרדשנא, פרדיש׳ m. (פרדש, enlargement of פרד) gift on parting, dismissal, farewellpresent. Lam. R. introd. (R. Josh. 2) לביתיה פ׳ שדר he sent a souvenir to his houuse (v. פיטרא II). Snh. 94b פ׳ להאי, v. דשנא; Yalk. Kings 235 פרדיש׳. - Pl. פרדשני, פרדיש׳. Meg. 13a ליה גליא ולא פ׳ שדר he (Ahasverus) sent farewell gifts (for Esther's friends), but she did not reveal to him (her kindred); Yalk. Esth. 1053 פרדשכי (corr. acc.). Ab. Zar. 71a פ׳ משדרי פרסאי הני those Persians send one another farewell gifts, and never reclaim them (considering possession by lifting (משיכה) final; oth. defin.; send satmples &c., considering acceptance of samples final purchase).

פרהגבנא, פרהגונאm. (aBabylonian corrupt. of parangaria, v. פרהנגריא) the offce of public service, sub. בעל the suprintendent of public labors, in gen. taשxx col- lector. B. Kam. 117a לפרהגב׳דמלכא מסרה Ms. M. (ed.פרהגנא; Ms. H. פרהגמוניא; Ms. R. פרהנגא; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) he surrendered it (the otject of litigation) to the royal otfice (or officer, for confiscation). Erub. 36b וכ׳ בפ׳ הא (ed. Sonc. דמלכא גבאני בפרח, v. Rabb. D. S. a. . note 100; Rashi בפרהגבני) in the one case the officer of public ser- vice is meant (by נכרים), in the other, the town officers. B. Mets. 83b וכ׳ דמלכא פ׳ לההוא אשכח Ms. M.
