פרע m. (b. h.; פרע) 1) long, entangled hair. Num. R. s. 11 פ׳ ומגדלים . . . נוזרים abstain from wine and grow long hair. Sifra Thazr., Par. 5, ch. XII (ref. to פרוע, Lev. XIII, 45) פ׳ לגדל that means, to let the hair grow (as against R. 'Akiba who explains פרוע uncovered, v. פרע); a. e. -- 2) thick grouwth of bushes. Tosef. Ohol. IX, 3, v. next w.
פרעה f, pl. פרעות (b. h.; פרע) 1) = preced., wild ir- regular groiwth, esp. the case of protruding boughs on one of which is an uncleanness, v. סככה. Ohol. VIII, 2 והפ׳,expl. מןהגדר היוצאות which protrude from the hedge; Tosef. ib. IX, 3 וכ׳ מן היוצא פרע; Naz. VII, 3; 54b. Y. ib. V II, 56c. - 2) (homilet.) paytment, retribution. Sabb. 119b (ref. to Jud. V, 2) ה׳ דברכו משום פרעות בפרוע מ'ט why are decreed punishments disarranged (reversed)? Because of 'praise the Lord; Yalk. Jud. 46.

פרף (denom. orפורפא ~~~~~) 1) to clasp. Part. pass. פרוף; f פרופה; pl. פרופים, שרופות;פרופין. YomaV, החיצונה וכ׳ פ׳ היתה the outer curtain was held back by a clasp on the north side, and the inner curtain on the south side (so as to make room for entering, wwithout eposing to view the Holy of Holies). - 2) to fasten a garment over the shoulderbyttaching weight to its overhangiag corner. VI, 7 וכ׳ האבן על פורפת a woman may wear a cloak thrown over her shoulder weighted by a stone or a nut; וכ׳ תפרוף שלא ובלבד provided she does not attach the weight for the first time on the Sabbath (v.
