פשר I ch. same, 1) to melt, be dissolved. Targ. O. Ex. XVI, 21. - Trnsf. (of a charm) to vanish, be broken. Snh. 67b וכ׳ פ׳ מייא לאשקויי מטא כי when he came (to a river) to let the ass drink, iit disappeared (the charm was broken), and there stood a landing board (v. אוסקניתא). - 2) [to dissolve,] to chew the cud. Targ. Y. Lev. XI, 7. Targ. Deut. XIV, 8. -- 3) to solve a riddle or a dream; to interpret. Targ. Gen. XL, 16. Ib. XLI, 12; a. fr. (in O. ed. Berl. interch. with Pa.). - Lam. פשרה f. (פשר) [division, cmp. בצע,] compromise, settlementt (cmp. Samar. פשרונה for משפט, Ex. XXI, 1, a. fr.]. Keth. X, 6 ביניהם פ׳ שיעשו עד until they agree to a di- vision among them. Tosef. Snh. I, 2 הפ׳ כך . . . שהדין כשם בשלשה as three judges are required for legal judgment, so are three required for arbitration; Bab. ib. 5b בשנים ופ׳ a compromise is valid if made before two judges. Ib. שנים וכ׳ פ׳ שעשו when two judges have arbitrated, the parties cannot retract (v. פשר). Y. ib. I, 18b, v. הכרעה. Ber. 10a; a. fr. - Sifre Num. 95 וכ׳ זו היא פ׳ this is to be a com- promise (between God and ourselves), he cannot give us what we demand.
