צייד, ציד m. (b. h.; צוד) hunter, fowler, fisher. Gen. R. s. 19 צ׳ ביד לצפור this is to be compared to a bird in the hand of a fowler. Erub. 54b (ref. to Prov. XII, 27 יחרך) הרמאי צ׳ ימים יאריך ולא יחיה לא the tricky hunter (the student whose object is to dazzle people with his erudition) shall not live and prolong his days; ib. צ׳ יחרוד הרמאי the shrewd hunter (the student that tries to learn and retain as much as possible) will roast his game (will become a scholar); Ab. Zar. 19a. Ib. לצ׳ משל וכ׳ שצד Ms. M. (ed. לאדם) like a fowler that catches many birds &c.; Erub. l. c.

צייר, ציר m. (צור) artist, designer, painter, sculptor. Gen. R. s. 1, vv. ססממן. Ber. 10a (ref. to צצור, ISam. II, 2) אאין כאלהינו צצ there is no artist like our God; a. fr. -- [Koh. R. to II, 12 נאה צ׳ הוא הצור the Creator (v. צור) is a fine artist; prob. to be read; נאה ציור הוא היצור this creature (man) is a fine creation].--- Pl. ציירין, ציר׳. Tosef. Kel. B. Bath. צילא m. (preced. art.) clear. B. Mets. 40b בצ׳ ליה ניחא he prefers clear wine (without dregs). -- Pem. צילתא. Yeb. 113a sq. וכ׳ היא צ׳ דעתא אי Ar. (ed. צילותא) whether his mind is at all times equally clear (though weak) or &c. Gitt. 70b וכ׳ היא צ דעתא התם (ed. צילותא) there his mind רwas clear, only that weakness befell him, opp. שגישתא. צילה f. =צל shade, esp. the shade from the covering of the Nuccah. Succ. I, 1 מצילתה מרובה שחמתה a Succah which has more sun (light) than shade. Ib. 4a צילתם אם וכ׳ מרובה if they have more shade than sun; a. fr.
