צפרדע c. (b. h.) frog. Ker. 13b. Toh. V, 1; 4. Snh. 67b (ref. to Ex. VIII, 2) וכ׳ היתה אחת צ׳ originally there was only one frog &c.; Ex. R. s. 10. Ib. . . . שליחותי עושה אאני צ׳ יaע I have my message carried, and be it even through a serpent, a scorpion or a frog; a. fr. -Pl, צפרדעים, צפרדעין. Ib. הצ׳ השחתת the ruin which the frogs efected. Pesik. Vayhi, p. 66b צ׳ (כגון) קולנין . . . ואחכ and then he sent them criers (heralds), that is the frogs; Pesik. R. s. I; a. e.
צפרירי m. pl. (denom. of צפרא) 1) morning8, every morning. Targ. Ps. LXXIII, 14. -- 2) morning demons. Ib. CXXI, 6. Targ. Cant. IV, 6. Targ. Y. Num. VI, 24.

צפרתא, צי׳ f. (v. יפרp fowl, esp. a small bird, (supposed to be) the humming bird. Snh. 107a שטן אתא כצי׳ . . . Satan came to him disguised as a bird (Yalk. Sam. 148 כטביא). Succ. 5b דצ׳ כאפי as large as the face of a tsipparta, opp. יוכני בר. Sabb. 80b דצ׳ the egg of a. ts. Yoma 75b כציפורתא והוי the quail (s'lav) was no larger than a ts.; a. e.; v. צפירתא. -- דדיקלא צ׳ the bird of the palmm' (= h. כרמים צפורת) a species of locusts. Sabb. 90b Ar. ed. Koh. (missing in ed.).
צפת pr. n. pl. Ysfath (Safed,) near Tiberias (v. Neub. Geogr. p. 227). Y. R. Hash. II, 58a top וכ׳ צ׳ דחמיין אילין those who see (the NeweMoon fire at) Ts., must they go around (announcing the New-Moon to others)?; ביטל ר׳ וכ׳ מסבה למה צ׳ . .. since Rabbi has abolished the signals (except for the lake of Tiberias), why shouldTs. go around? But (the fires are raised at the lake) for announcement, that they (the inhabitants of Ts. and other places) mmay know it.

צקלון m. (b. h. צקלן) bag. Pirke d'R. El. ch. XXXV; Yalk. Gen. 119 בקלונך הלחם the bread is in thy bag. -- [Men. 66b (play on בצקלון, II Kings IV, 42) לנו ויצק בא היה ונוה . he came and poured water (on our hands), and we ate, and it was pleasing.]

צר II m. (b. h.; preced.) 1) (adj.) narrow. Par. XII, 2 צר שפיה צלוחית a fask with a narrow neck; a. e. - עין צר, pl. עין צרי narrow-mminded, selfsh, envious. Y. Taan. III, 66d (ref. to Job XXXVI, 19) לך יהו לא תפלה סדרתה אם מלמעלה ע׳ צ׳ if thou orderest thy prayer well, thou shalt have no envious adversaries in heaven above; a. e.; V. עין. -- Pem. צרה. Esth. R. to I, 5, a. e, vv. ין; a. fr. -- Pl. צרות. Y. Sot. IX, 24a bot. וכ׳ וצ׳ מלמעלן רחבות wide above, and narrow below; a. fr. - 2) anguish, trouble. צרב (cmp. צרף) to shrink (from heat). - Part. pass. צריב compact, hardened. Bets. 7a דעריבן משום because they (the eggs that aro laid) are hard-shelled (and that is what he cares for).
צרבא m. (preced.) shrinking, reduction (through smelting). Targ. Is. VI, 13 (some צרכא, corr. acc.; h. text בער).
צרבה, צורבה f. (preced.) shrirelled surface, scar (e b. h. צרבת). Neg. VII, 1 צ׳ נעשו שלא עד ed. Dehr. (ed. צרבת) before they are cicatrised; Tosef. ib. II, 14 צורבה. Neg. VI, 8 צרבה Ar. (ed. צרבת). Lam. R. to I, 2 [read;] השחין כצרבת לחיייהם על ונושכות and they (tbe tears) ate themselves into their cheeks (forming a surface) like the scars of a sore.

צרדא m. tsarda, name of a bird (prob. named from its voice, v. preced.). Hull. 62b (Ar. צראדא; Ms. H. צררא; Ms. R. 1 ציריא; Rashi Ms. צרדא, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 300).
צרדא I e. (preced. wds.) coarse web (of hemp), rough loth. M. Kat. 27b זזא בר בצ׳ אפי׳ . . והאידנא (Ar. בצדרא בת; Ms. M. 2 בצררא; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 7) and nowa- days people use for shrouds even rough cloth. worth a. Zus; Keth. 8b bot. -- Pl. צרדי. B. Mets. 60b צ׳ למידק שרא (Ms. M. צדרא; Ms. F. צדרי; Ms. R. צררי, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) permitted to beat hemp-clothes (to improve their appearance).
צרדא II (צררה), צ׳ רוח . Jemen Irrada. name of a disease, (supposed to be) vvertigo. Hull. 105b ׳ לר׳ דקשי (Ar. צדדה; Ms. R. 3 צדדא, Rashi M. צררא; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 8) it is bad for (it begets) vertigo. es. 11 1b צ׳ ר׳ ליה אחדא vertigo seized him (Rashiנ megrimm, prob. reading דדא).
צרדה (o צרדה) f. (צרד) rough sound, enap (or whistle, v. infra); צ׳ אצבע the snapping fnger, middle finger. Yoma I, 7; Tosef. ib. I, 9, expl. ימין של גדולה אאצבע the large finger of the right hand. Y. ib. I, end, 39b רב
