קופדא II, קופד m. (cmp. preced) [a ball, cmp. אומצא,] a piece of meal, in gen. meat; [tbhe Greek co- ricios is prob. an adaptation of our w.]. Y. Shek. V, end, 49b [read;] ק׳ זבין וזיל טימיתה לך הא (Bab. ed. קופר; Ms. M. בשר קופך, read ד . . ; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) here is the price for it, go and buy a piece of meat. Y. Ber. II, 5c bot. Y. Pes. VI, 33c. Y. Shebi. VI, end, 37a עבד ק׳ ליה he prepared a piece of meat for him. Y. Maas. Sh. II, 53a bot. שמינה קופדה a piece of fat meat. Gen. R. s. 19, beg. צלי ק׳ (some ed. קופר) a piece of roast. Ib. s. 63 (expl. וכ׳ ציד כי, Gen. קופה f. (קפף, v. כפף; cmp. כיפה) 1) heap, pile. Yoma. 22b וכ׳ שרצים של ק׳ כן אם אלא unless a heap of reptiles hangs behind him, v. פרנס. Ber. 32a, v. נהם; a. e. -- 2) archway, vault, v. כיפה -- 3) (v. כפיפה) basket, large vessel. Y. Ber. I, 3a וכ מלאה ק a basket full of bones. Gen. R. s. 13 וכ׳ קופתך הבא bring thy tub and measure (fll it); Y. Succ. I, 52b bot. Y. Sabb. X, 12c top פרוצה ק׳ a basket which is broken through (the contents of which protrude). Bab. iib. 91b הרוכלין קושת a spice-dealers' basket. Gitt. 67a הרוכלים קופת . . . יוחנן ר׳ R. Joh. ben Nuri is a spice-peddlars' basket (ready in all branches of learniing); בשמים של ק׳ . . . ר׳ R. קופון, v. קמפון. קופיא m. (קוף or קפף) 1) wall, parapet. B. Bath. 73a וכ׳ אק׳ רהיט ran on the parapet of the wall of Mahoza. (Rashi; אקופי on the pinnacles). -- 2) circuit, trnsf. n- directness, inmplication. קופינא m. (v. קופא II), דמרא ק׳ the handle of a hoe, contrad. to פדא blade; [oth. opin.; קופינא (cmp. קופא I, 2) that part of the hoe which contains the hole for the in- sertion of the handle, the bladte, vv. פדא]. B. Kam. 27b. Gitt. 32a; Sabb. 102b דמרא בק׳ שופתא the pin which fastens the handle to the blade.

קופיץ m. (ch. form) (קפץ; cmp. קפיץ, a. קפץ) [curved cutting tool,] hatchet or bil for chopping bones. Targ. Y. Deut. XXI, 4 (ed. Vien. קופין). -- Bets. IV, 3 מבקעין אין בק׳ אלא . . . you must not split wood (on the Holy Day for immediate use) with an axe . . . , but only with the butcher's hatchet. Ib. III, 6 הק׳ כנגד by putting on the scale a hatchet (instead of the commercial weights); Y. ib. 62a bot. קופיס. Sot. IX, 5, v. ערף. Pes. 70a וכ קשורה ק (fem.) tthe hatchet tied to tbhe slaughbering knife; a. fr.- Tosef. Bekh. I, 17 וכ בקופן עורפו (Var. בקפין) he breaks its neck with a hatchet from behind.

קופליות, קופלאות f. pl. (cmp. קיפלא I, a. Arab. kuf sera, pessulus) 1) bolts, padlock with chains. Gen. R. s. 48, end וכ׳ ק׳ שתי בידו שהיו לאחד (some ed. קפ׳) like one who held in his hand two parts of a lock and took them to the smith &c. Tosef. Kel. B. Mets.
