קרחת f. (b. h.; קרח) 1) baldness; הכרם ק׳ razed portion of a vineyard. Kil. IV, 1, v. קרה Hif.; a. e. -- 2) smooth baek or inside of cloth; worn cloth. Sifra Thazr., Par. 5, ch. XV השחקים אלו בקרחתו b'karahto(Lev. XIII, 55) means worn cloth, opp. hגבחה. - 3) a leprous afection on the back of the head (making it bald). Neg. X, 10 איזו וכ׳ הקדקד מן ק׳ היא which portion of the head is meant by karohath? rrom the crown sliding backward &c.; Tosef. ib. IV, 9; Sifra l. c. ch. X; a. fr.
קרט (v. P. Sm. 3741; cmp. קרץ) to break, take a bite. Lev. R. s. 22; Koh. R. to V, 8 וכ׳ למקרטא יתיב sat down on the road to eat something (Tanh. Huck. 1 אוכל שהיה לחם).
קרט m. (preced., v. קורט) karat, a small coin. Y. Sot. III, 19a; Y. Peah VIII, 21a bot., v. קפילין. Y. B. Mets. V, beg. 9c שרי בק׳ ק׳ to lend money on lkarat against k. (counting lharats in place of denars) is permitted; cmp. לקן. -- Pl. קרטין. Y. Shek.II, 46d וכ׳ ק׳ דינרין לשקול ביקשו they wanted to pay their half-shekels in denars' (Mish. ib. 4), that is in karats, but it was not accepted. -קרטים־, כיטין, v. קורט.

קרטוב, קור׳m. (קרטב, Parel of קטב; cmp. קרטופנא a. קטף) karttub, kurtub, a small liquid measure equal to dg of a Log. Tosef. B. Bath. V, 10; B. קרטובלא, קרטבלאf.(aBaby) corrupt. otקטבוליא) leather cover, spread. Sabb. 79a bot. בק׳ ההיא t(Ms. M. בקורטבלא, Ar. בקרטב׳) this refers to a leather spread. Hag. 24a קרטב׳ עג שצברן (Ms. M. קטבלא) he piled them on a leather spread. Nidd. 28a קטבלא עג שרפו he burned the corpse on a leather spread (which is not consumed in fire).

*קרטון m. (cors, tis e cohors) an enclosure for a division in a military camp, sguare. Ber. 32b, v. גסטרא; Yalk. Is. 332 קירטון (prob. to be read; קור׳).

קרטופנא m. (קרטף, Parel of קטף; cmp. קטף) in- cision, scratch, crack. -- Pl. קרטופני. B. Kam. 86a דאית וכ׳ ק׳ ליה if he has sores from scratches on his head &c., v. צווח. Keth. 107b ק׳ בהו דלית when the glazed vessels have no cracks. Pes. 30b ק׳ בהו דאית היכא when they have cracks, opp. שיעי.
קרטט (v. קרט) to break, cut into small pieces. Y. Maas. Sh. IV, 54d וכ׳ קומוי וקרטטן . . . נסתון Bar K. took them (the fruit) and cut them in his presence, saying, is this worth anything? -- Part. pass. מקרטט, מקרטטה. Ib.. וכ׳ מק׳ מילה טבא ולא מק׳ מילה כדון עד (ed. Zyt. מקרטמה) so far (you are right) as to a thing which is worth nothing when cut; how about a thing which is valu- able wb en it is cut?

קרטיגני, קרטיגנין pr. n. p. (Cartsgo, Cartbago. -inis) Carthage (rebuilt under the Roman empire), on the northern coast of Africa. Men. 110a מכירין ק׳ ועד מצור וכ׳ from Tyre to Carthage they know (respect the past history of) Israel and their Father in heaven, but from Tyre westward and from Carthage eastward they do not know &c.; Is. 316. Lev. R. s. 27 וכ׳ והוות קרטיגנא . . . אאזל (Alexander the Great) came to a city called Kartigna. which was occupied (guarded) by women only (v. Tam. 32a). Gen. R. s. 44, end (expl. הקדמני, Gen.
