קרי, קרי m. (b. h.; קרה I) 1) accident, mishap. R. Hash. 16a וכ׳ ק׳ בה שאירע תבואה a crop to which an accident happened (an injury from natural causes) or a misfortune (through human agencies). Ib. ק׳ . . . אדם וכ׳ a man whom a mishap befell or &c. -- 2) (euphem.) mocturnal pollution. Ab. V, 5. Midd. I, 9. Yoma 88a בעל ק׳ one to whom pollution happened; a. fr. -- Pl. קריין. Ber. 22b; B. קריאה, קרייה f. (קרא) 1) call. Sifra Vayikra, Par. I (ref. to Lev. I, 1) לדיבור ק׳ הקדים the Lord sent the call in advance of the speech. Ib. הנני אומר הוא ק׳ כל על to every call he responded with here am I' Deut. R. s. I1, beg. בק׳ יצחק חתב Isaac closed his blessings with a call (Gen. XXVIII, 1); בק׳ אלא . . . אני I will commence with a call (ib. XLIX, 1); a. fr. -- 2) reading esp. from the Scriptures. שמע קריאת (קרית) (abbrev. קש), or ק׳ (sub. שמע) the recitation of Sh'om a (Deut. VI, 449; XI, 132I; Num. קריבה f. (קרב) coming near, use of the root קרב. Gen. R. s. 96 (ref. to Gen. XLVII, 29) למות ק׳ בו שנ׳ מי כל וכ׳ he of whom the expression 'come near to die is used, has not reached the age of his fathers; ק׳ בו כתיב דוד וכ׳ of David the expression קרב is used (I Kings I, 1) &c.; Yalk. Kings 168. Snh. 3b (ref. to Ex. XXII, 7 ונקרב) משעת שלשה ק׳ from the time of the approach (before court) there must be three judges. Gen. R. s. 71 ק׳ ובזה ק׳ בזה coming near is mentioned in connection with the tribe of Judah (Ps. LXV, 5) and with the priestly tribe (Ex. XXVIII, 1). Y. Snh. VII, 25a וכ׳ ק׳ ק׳ דכתיב מכיון since with regard to illicit connections the word קרב is used &c. Sabb. 104b ק׳ מחוסר, דק מעשה מחוסר t lacksbeing brought ttogether (joined into one word); a. fr. -- Y. קריד m. (קרד; cmp. גריד) (a pot) covered with a crust formed of hardened sediments. Ab. Zar. 76a והאי ק׳ האי ק׳ לא (Ms. M. קריר, cmp. גררד a. גרר) the one (a vessel talken from gentiles) has crusty accretions, the other (a sacred vessel) has none.
