קרש I m. (b. h.; קרש; cmp. Arab. karash collegit . et partes junxit) board. Sabb. 102b וכ׳ שנפלה ק׳ a.board attacked by a worm, v. דרנא; a. e. -- Pl. קרשים. Ex. R. s. 52 וכ׳ הרי ק׳ הרי here are the boards (for the Tabernacle), here are the bolts &c. Sabb. XII, 3 המשכן קרשי the boards of the Tabernacle; a. fr.
קרש II m. keresh, name of a kind of antelope, unicorn. Hull. 59b וכ׳ טביא ק׳ the k. is the gazelle of BesIIai (v. טגרוס). Ib. וכ׳ לו שאין פbאע ק׳ the k. is permitted, although it has only one horn. Y. Sabb. II, 4d bot. וכ׳ שמה היה ק׳ it (the tahash) was named keresh . . . having one horn. B. Bath. 16b (ref. to הפוך קרן, Job XLII, 14) לקרכא שדומה דק׳ she had the complexion of the horn of the k.; קרנא היא לקותא דק׳ but this would mean a defect (not a. description of beauty).
קרש (cmp. קרס) [to be joined, v. קרש I,] to become solid, congeal, contract. Gen. R. s. 4; Y. Ber. I, 2c bot. קרשו ובשני, v. לח. Ib. הרקיע יקרש let the heavens congeal. Gen. R. s. 33 יקרשו שלא בצנה .. עמודים marble columns covered with carpets in the winter, lest they contract (and crack), v. קרס. Pes. V, 5 הדם ויקרש and the blood may congeal; a. fr. - Part. pass. קרוש. Y. Nidd. III, beg. 50c וכ׳ ק׳ שהוא הוא דם it is blood which congealed and formed a lump. Y. Sabb. II, 4a ק׳ ואינו אותו שמתיכין כל whatever you melt, and it becomes not solid again. קרתויים, קרתוייןm. pl. (K~~toi, Polybius ג, 52, 5; Strabo XI, 13) natives of Kartu (mountaineers of Media). Yeb. 16a וכ׳ איתמר ק׳ the traditional spelling is Kartuyim (and not Karduyim), aas people ay, disqualified Kartuenians. Ib. (Chald. form) וכ׳ קרתויי Kartuenians are not the same as Karduenians, as people say פסילי ק׳ v. קרדויים.
