רפרף, v. רפף.
רפש m. (b. h.; cmp. next wds.) mud. Midr. Till. to PPs. XVIII, 8 ׳ ומיני טיט אותן ועושה and changed them into clay and all sorts of mud.
דפש (b. h.)= רפס, to tread, stamp, press. Ex. R. s. 157a ראשוראשון ובעטט הענבים ר hepacked the grapes and stamp- ed one instalment aatter the other(thus making room for the grapes still in the vineyard). -- Trnsf. to conguer, vanguish. Lam. R. to I, 13 בידיך שרפשקיו עד עשית רפשים כמה (not עשיתי) how many conquests didst thou attempt, before I brought him within thy power?; Midr. Sam. ch. XXIV בידך רפשתיו שלא עד . . עשיתה רפשים כמה (not בידו). Tanh. Vayishl. 4 ד׳ הגדול לשר he vvanquished the great chief (archangel). Ib. 2 ורפשו . . . נטל (not ורפש) he seized the archangel and conquered him. Tanh. Vayhi 6 . . . ידי וכ׳ לשר שרפשה dost thou attempt to remove my hand which vanquished the chief of the angels?; Pesik. R. s. 3 וכ׳ לשר תפשה זו והאאיך, read; וכ׳ רפשה זו ידי והא. Hf. הרפיש, with עצמו, to lett one's selfbe trodden upon, to surrender. Cant. R. to III, 6 תחתיו עצמו וה׳ he sur- rendered himself to him; Gen. R. s. 77 לפניו עצמו וה׳; Yalk. ib. 132 והרעיש (corr. acc.).
דפש I ch. same. Gen. R. s. 93 וכ׳ רפש חד ר׳. . . רמז he motioned to Menasseh, and he stamped once with his foot, and the palace shook; Yalk. ib. 150. Pa. דפש to crush, break clods. B. Mets. 95b Ar., v. רפי. tthpa. אתרפש to be shaken, v. רפס.
דפש m. (preced.) 1) stamping; trnsf. conquest. - Pl. רפשיס. Lam. R. to I, 13; Midr. Sam. ch. XXIV, v. דפש. -- 2) stamped dung. B. Kam. 30a כרפשו אלא יהא לא is this not the same as if he had deposited and stamped his dung (in the public road)?
רפש II ch. same, stamping. Gen. R. s. 93 ר׳ חד (some ed. רפיש), v. רפש I. Ib. אבא דבית מן ר׳ דין this.cstamp of the foot is peculiar to my father's household; Yalk. ib. 150. *לשש (emp. Assyr. rapasu, Del. Assyr. Handw. 626) to spread. Targ. Y. Num. XI, 31 Ar. a. Levita (ed. שרא; h. text ויטש).
רפת f. (b. h. רפתים pl.; cmp. רפף a. דפפות) cattle-shed, stall. Pes. 8a בקר ר׳ ox-stall. Y. ib. IV, 31b וכ׳ שבר׳ (זבלל) the dung of a stall whether large or small. B. Bath. II, 3. Ib. VI, 4 זה הוא בקר ר׳ this (four cubits by six) is a stall (but not a dwelling); a. fr.

רצד (b. h. רצד Pi.) to lie in wait, watch. Lev. R. s. 26 יsע ור׳ אזל he went and held himself in wait for him.

דצון m. (b. h.; רצה) desire, will, good-will. Tanh. Ki Thissa 27 בר׳ אני . . בר׳ הוי אתה עליהם אני כשאהיה when I am angry with them, be thou in a conciliatory mood; and when thou art angry, Iwill be conciliatory, v. רצה. Ab. II, 4 וכ׳ כרצונך רצונו עשה do his (God's) will as being thy will, in order that he may do thy desire as being his own; וכ׳ רצונך בטל, v. בטל I Tosef. Ber. III, 7 רצונך עשה וכ׳ do thou thy will in the heavens above; Ber. 29b; a. v. fr. -ר׳־ יהי (abbrev. יה'ר) be it the will (of God), w. רעוא. Ib. 28b. Taan. 5b, sq.; a. v. fr. -- מלפניך ר׳ יהי (abbrev. יריכ) be it thy will. Ber. 60a; a. fr. --- בר׳ willingly, opp. באונס. Keth. 9a; a. fr. -לר׳־ a) acceptable. Sifra Vayikra, N'dab., ch. III, Par. 3 (ref. to Lev. I, 3) תמים אינו שאם כשם וכ׳ לר׳ אינו as a sacrifice is not acceptable when it is not perfect &c.; a. e. -- b) intentionally. Makhsh. VI, 8 מטמא לר׳ ושלא לר׳ makes susceptible of uncleanness whether it is discharged intentionally (by milking) or unintentionally (by spontaneous dripping); ib. לר׳ . . המשקין the liquids which come out of them with man's intention (by press- ing); Sabb. 14 3b, sq.; a. fr. - c) welcomme. Makhsh. I, 1 כל וכ׳ לר׳ שתחלתו משקה a liquid the contact with which is welcome at first(e. g. rain washing utensils), though finally it may be unwelcome (injurious).
צועה f. (רצע) 1) [flattened, cmp. רצם,] (leather) thong, strap, lash. Sabb. V, 4 קרניה שבין בר׳ with the strap be- tween her horns. Men. 35b דתפלין ר׳ the thong of the Tfllin. Num. R. s. 16 מזכירין . . . בר׳ ולקה שסרח לתינוק וכ׳ הר׳ לו like a child that did some mischief and was punished with a strap, and when they want to frighten it, they mention the strap with which it was punished; וכ׳ רעה ר׳ עמלק היה כך so was Anmalek the bad lash for Israel; Tanh. Huck. 18 מרדות דצועת מעולם וכ׳ (not רצועה) Amalek was at all times the strap of chastisement for lsrael. Macc. III, 12 (22b) וכ׳ של בידו ור׳ and he (the beadle) held in his hand a lash of calf-skin, which was twisted doubly, and two (thinner) straps were going up and down (were plaited) through it (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 7). Y. Sot. IX, 24b top הר׳ בעל the strap- bearer, v. רצען. Yoma 12a, a. e. וכ׳ מחלקו יוצאה היתה ור׳ a strip of land went forth from Judah's lot and entered into Benjamin's territory, and on this the Temple was buiilt; a. fr. -- Pl. רצועות. Macc. l. c. ר׳ ושתי (not ושני), v. supra. Midr. Till. to Ps. LXXVVII לוקה אתה ר׳ עשר thou art to receive tten lashes. Sabb. VI, 1; a. fr. - 2) (trnsf.) re- strictioa; הר׳ הותרה [he strap is untied,] the restriction is removed. Koh. R. to XI, 9 (ref. to וכ׳ שמח, ib.) הותרה וכ׳ דין לית הר׳ is every restraint removed? is there no justice and no judge?; ib. to I, 3; Lev. R. s. 28, beg. a. e. - Y. Bicc. I, 64a; Y. Kidd.
