שוכלתן, v. סוכלתן.
שוכתא m. (Shaf. of נכת; v. שתד) corrosion, rust (cmp. Lat. morsus). Sabb. 65a וכ׳ ש׳ משום אלא but (if a. coin is chosen to be put on a callus on the sole of the foot) on account of the corrosion (which softens the callus), let a metal foil be used

שול m. (b. h.; cmp. שלל I, a. Arab. savila) [that which hangs on, attachmment,]; du. שולים, pl. שולים 1) skirts of a. garment. Yalk. Deut. 829 המעיל שולי. . . פעמונים the bells wwhich the high priiest wore on the skirts of his cloak. -- 2) lower part of the body, abdomen, buttock; contrad. to פה. Ohol. XI, 7 שוליו . . . שהטומאה for the uncleanness (which the animal swallowed before it died) is assumed to take its way by its abdomen (and not through its mouth). -- 3) rim at the bottom of a vessel, saucer attached to the vessel; in gen. the bottom, rest of a vessel. Kel. XXX, 1 וכ׳ קערה שולי the lower part of a (broken) vesssel or of a salver of glass, which one made available for use. Sabb. 30a קדרה כשולי . . . פני נהפכו the faces of David's enemies turned (black) like the bottom of a pot; Y. Hag. II, 77d, v. שחר II. Ohol. IX, 13 והיא שוליה על עומדת היתה כלי if the vessel stands on its rest, and it is available as a vessel (not defective). Tosef. ib. X, 3 חדין שוליו היו וכ׳ if its rim at the bottom is sharp (not rounded), and there is not a handbreadth between its rim and the ground. Ib. 2 וכ׳ פיה על זו של שוליה. . עמוד a column of pots..., the bottom of one on the mouth of the other &c. Dem. VII, 2 הכוס בשולי. . מה what I intend to leave (of the wine) at the bottom of the cup; a. v. fr.

שולחן, של׳ m. (b. h.; שלח, v. Ges Thes. ed. Rodiger s. v.) plate, table. Ab. Zar. 68b, a. fr. מלכים של ש׳ על עולה is brought up on the royal table (is considered a delicacy). Y. Kidd. IV, beg. 65b מלכים שולחן גירי proselytes who joined for the sake of the royal table (to be members of the royal household); Yeb. 24b, v. שום II. Ab. III, 3 מקום של משלחנו . . . אחד ש׳ על שאכלו שלשה when three persons eat at the same table, and hold conversation about the Law, they are considered as if eating from the table of the Lord (the altar), opp. מתים זבחי. Ber. 55a; Hag. 27a וכ׳ אדם של שלחנו, v. כפר. Bets. 20b מלא שולחנך יהא שלא וכ׳ lest thy own table be full, and thy Master's table (the altar) be empty. Kidd. III, 2 וכ׳ הש׳ על הראה ואם but if (he is a banker and) shows her the stipulated amount on the table (the money not being his own), she is not be- trothed; a. fr. -- Esp. the table for the show-bread in the Temple. ag. שולחני m. (preced.; cmp. ~~~~~~~~~) money-chang- er, banker. Tosef. Sabb. I, 8 וכ׳ בדינר הש׳ ולא nor must the money-changer (go out shortly before the Sabbath begins) with a Denar suspended from his ear; Sabb. 11b; Y. ib. 3b top. Num. R. s. 4 (interchanging with טרפסיטס), v. קטבלימטין. Tanr. Balak 4; Num. R. s. 20 (ref. to פתורה, Num. XXII, 5, v. פתורא I) וכ׳ שהיו היה ש׳ (כ) he was (like) a banker, for the kings of the nations consulted him &c., v. ראן; a. fr. -- P. שולחנין. Y. Shek. I, end, 46b וכ׳ נוטלין היו ש׳ the money~changers took it (the agio of exchange) for their labors.

XXI, 20 (ed. Vien. של׳; h. text שבט). Targ. Is. X, 5; a. e. --a33) ruler. Targ. Ps. LXIX, 16 Ms. (ed. מצולתא) [read;] ש׳ מצולתא עלי למחפי יסלעם ולא חסין and may no mighty ruler swallow me up by making the deep to cover me up; h. מצולה תבלעני ואל).
שולטנות, של׳ f. (preced.) rulership, office. Y. Ab. Zar. III, beg. 42b ש׳ של נשהן... אם if it is sure that they (the images) represent officers, opp. מלכים של royal images (which are worshipped). Gen. R. s. 6, end (ref. to Gen. XXVIII, 12) בהן גומרת ששלטנותן .. . שרי אלו that means the genii of the four empires whose power is complete through them (). -- Pl. שולטניות, של׳. Ib. s. 82 מלכיות היו וכ׳ רוצות וש׳ (not ושלטנות; ed. Wil. ושלטוניות, corr. acc.) royalties and governorships were anxious tto be connected with them, v. שלטון.

שולטתא f. pl. (שלט) posts(?). Lam. R. to I, 1 רבתי (כות חד 2) דערסא ש׳ ארבעתי ארזין ארבעה the four cedars (in the dream) mean the four posts of the bedstead; (Y. Maas. Sh. V, end, 55c שיטתיה), v. שיטתא.
