Shek., p. 11b (ref. to Is.II, 9) והם אני תי והש . . ששחו אני יודע I know that Israel lowered themselves by bowing to the calf, and I and they were humbled; Yalk. Ex. 386; Yalk. Is. 260; Tanh. II, 4 הימנית ליד לש׳ בעומדין כאורגת (a woman is placed) in the position of a weaver at an upright loom, for the sake of examining the pit of the right arm; Sifra Thazr., Neg., Par. 3, ch. IV בבית כמוסק הש׳ in the position of one taking olives down, for exam- ining the arm-pit; Lev. R. s. 15; Yalk. ib. 551. Snh.VII, 7 משחיו המדבר, v. פיתום II; Y. ib. 25a משיחיו. שחיא, שי׳ ch. same, 1) bending, bowing the head. Bets. 24a ש׳ בחד לה ומטי . . כל (Ar. שהיא) when one running after an animal gets it with one bend (the spae being too small to allow an escape). Gitt. 70b (ref. to Mish. ib. VII, 1 והרכין) נקטיה לאו דלאו ש׳ ודילמא maybe he was seised by spasms, making him bend his head in the way of one indicating dissent; הן דהן ש׳ making himma bend in the way of one bowing the head in assent. Ib. דסירוגין ש׳ alternate spasms of the head accidentally corresponding to assent and dissent respectiively. -2) arm-- pit. Targ. Y. Deut. XXII, 5 (ed. Vien. שיחיא, corr. acc.). - Y. Tar. שחיטה f. (b. h.; שחט II) cutting the throat, slaugh- tering according to the lhewish ritual. Sifra Tsav, ch..VIII, Par. 4 משיכה אלא ש׳ לשון אין by shahat drawing (of the knife) is meant, v. שחט I. Hull. 9a לאכול אסור ש׳... טבח כל משחיטתו iff a slaughterer does not know the rules of slaughtering, you dare not eat of what he has killed. Ib. הש׳ לאחר הטבה the slaughterer must examine the organs (v. סימן) after cutting.
