שחרורית f. (שחר II) blackness, ugliness. Taan. 23b וכ׳ לשחרוריתה חנה תחזור may Hannah become ugly again, and she did so.
שחרוריתא ch. same. B. Kam. 20b דאשייתא ש׳ משום because the walls get black (when people live in the house). B. Mets. 117b ש׳ דאיכא משום (Ms. H. דאשיתא שחרתא; differ. in Ms. M., v. שחר II) because there is a claim in the case for the blackening of the walls.

שחרחרות f. (v. preced. arts.) blackness; trnsf. sin- fulness. Cant. R. to I, 6 בשחרחרותי תראוני אל look not at me in my sinfulness (do not exaggerate my faults).
שחרית f. (שחר) morning time. Ber. I, 2(9b. .. מאימתי בש׳ (Y. ed. Ms. M. בשחרין; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) from what time may we read the Sh'mmm'a in the morning?; Tosef. ib. I, 2 בשחרין; a. fr. -שש־ פת, v. פת. -ש׳־ טובלי, טובלי שחרין, v. טבל I.
שחרר, שי׳ (חרר II) to set free, emancipate. Y. Yeb. viII, 8a top משוחרר שיחררו... עבדו העושה if a man mort- gages his slave and then sells him, he is not sold; if he sets him free, he is free. Gitt. IV, 4 וכ׳ ושחררו. . עבד if a master mortgages his slave and sets him free . . ., we force the mortgagee to make him a freedman, but he (the slave) writes a note on his value; ib. אלא כותב אינו משחררו none but him who set him free has to write the note of indebtedness. Ib. 40b שחררו מי which of them (the mortgager or the mortgagee) set him free? Ber. 47b וכ׳ עבדו ש׳ declared his slave free and made him serve to complete the number of ten persons (required for prayers). שחרתא, v. שחרוריתא.
שחת (b. h.) to be low, bent. Pi. שחת (cmp. חבל) to pervert, ruin, do harmm. Ex. R. s. 8 לנפשו ש׳ he did harm to himself; a. e. - Ab. d. R. N. ch. I, end לשחתו .וירדו ed. Schechter(ed. לשרתו, corr. acc.) and the ministering angels came down to destroy him (Adam). Kidd. 24b (ref. to Ex. XXI, 26) לשחתה שיתכוין עד when he intended to destroy it. Naz. 4b לשחת, v. שער; a. e. Hiff. השחית 1) same. Ex. R. l. c. לנפשו ה׳, v. supra. Tanh. To'd. 6 להשחיתו. .. לילך to go to Nabal to ruin him; a. fr. -- Esp. תשחית בל (v. בל) the law forbidding to ruin anything wantonly (derived from Deut. XX, 19). Sabb. 129a ח בל משום מר קעבר והא in doing so, do you not disregard the law which forbids wilful destruction? בל לי עדיף דגופאי ת׳ not to do injry to mnyself is a higher duty to me; ib. 140b; a. fr. - 2) to coommit a nuisance. Y. Succ. V, 55c (play on משתחויתם, Ez. VIII, 16) [read;] שהיו להיכל יתיםמrומשז לחמה משתחוים they prostrated themselves in worship of the sun, and committed nuisance towards the Temple (v. Bab. ib. 53b; Yoma 77a).

שחת I f. (b. h.; שוח) pit, grave. Pesik. R. s. 10 (ref. to Ps. LXXV, 8) וכ׳ ש׳ לבאר לישראל שהשפיל זה as eh (Neh. IX, 18) brought Israel down to the lowest pit, so did eh (Ex. XXX, 13) lift it up &c.; a e.
שחת II f. (preced.) low growth, corn in its earliest stage used instead of grass. Peah II, 1 לש׳ הקוצר he who cuts youog corn to be used as fodder; Tosef. ib.I, 8. Men. X, 8 (71a) לבהמה ומאכיל לש׳ קוצר (Bab. ed. מאכל, corr. acc.) one may cut barley as shahath and give it to the cattle (before the Omer has been offered); Tosef. ib. X, 32 וכ׳ שלא עד לש קוצר as to cutting barley for fodder; before it has approached maturity by one third, one may begin &c. Men. 71b וכ׳ לא לש׳ כל whatever is for fodder is not con- sidered as harvesting. Sabb. XXIV, 2. Kidd. 62b; a. e.
שחתא, שי׳ 1) same. Targ. Am. VII, 1(h. text גי). - 2) trouble n the lower extremities, piles (or worms). Gitt. 60b לשי׳ Ar. ed. Koh. (oth. ed. Ar. לשח׳, לשחי׳; Talm. ed. לרושחתא).
