שלך, Hif. השליך (b. h.) to cast off throw down. Erub. 22a; Yalk. Deut. 846 להשליכו, vv. משוא. Tanh. Sh'mini 11 וכ׳ חומר ומשליכין . .. הבחורים young men and boys struck him (the drunken man) and cast mud in his face. Midr. Prov. ch. I לבור אותו נשליך let us cast him into a pit. Ib. לים והשליכה חכה נטל he ttook a hook and tthrew it into the sea. Lam. R. to II, 1 לארן השליכו he cast him off (his shoulder and) to the ground; a. fr. Hof. הושלך to be thrown. Tanb. שלל I (to hang down, be loose,] 1) to hang on, to chain. Part. pass. שלול. Lam. R. introd. (R. Z era) . . . כת בשלשלאות שלולים a troop of old men chained with chains. - 2) to make chain-stitches, to baste, opp. אחה to sew together with fine stitches. Y. M. Kat. III, 82b top הוא המתים כל על וכ׳ ומאחה . . . שולל for all deceased relatives one may baste the rent after seven days, and sew it after thirty days; וכ׳ שביעי יום וישלול let him be permitted to baste it on the seventh day &c.; Treat. S'mah. ch. IX; M. Kat. 22b. Ib. וכ׳ שוללתו האשה a woman may baste it immediately (after rending), out of regard for her dignity; ib. 26b. Kam. 61a, a. e. שוללין, v. שלולית. Hithpol. השתולל to be bereft (of reason), be senseless. Snh. 97a (expl. Is. LIX, 15) הבריות על משתולל מרע וסר he that departs from evil is considered by people as senseless.
שלל I m. (b. h.; preced.) booty, gain. B. Kam. 61a, v. אגף. Ex. R. s. 18 (ref. to Is. VIII, 3) שללם לבו ומיהר (ed. Leipz. שלול, read; שללו) and he shall hasten to plunder their (his) booty. Mekh. B'shall., Shir., s. 7 [read] ממוחלק להם וממוני שללי להם אני I am assigned to them, my booty and my own property shall be theirs; Yalk. Ex. 249; a. e.
שלל II m. (שלל 1) chain, loose stitch, baste.. M. Kat.. 26b הש׳ מתו הקורע he wwho rends his garment (in mourn- ing) where it has been stitched; Y. ib. III, 83b top הש׳ מן. kts. II, 6 הכובסין שלל the washers' materials loosely stitched together; Sabb. 48b כובסים של ש׳. -- Trnsf. של 'שש ביצים embryonic eggs laced together with veins; ovary of birds. Tosef. Zab. שלם I, שלם (b. h.) to be whole, complete; to end. cease. Y. Sot. VIII, 22a bot. וכ׳ שלמה שבימיו שלום Zedekiah was named Shallum, because in his days ended the reign of the house of Judah; Y. Shek. VI, 49d top; Y. Hor. III, 47c bot.; Bab. ib. 11b; Ker. 5b ששלם (corr. acc.); Yalk. Kings 250; Yalk. Chr. 1085. Pesik. R. s. 6 (ref. to I Kings VII, 51) וכ׳ מלאכת שלמה עכשיו . . שבא כיון when Solomon came and built the Temple, the Lord said, now the work of heaven and earth (creation) is complete; Yalk. Kings 186 שלימה. Pesik. R. l. c. נפשם שלמה . . . שהשלימו כיון when the workmen had finished their work, their life was finished (they died); Yalk. l. c.; a. e. Hif. השלים 1) to complete, finish.
